Phillips x treme headlight bulbs

Featured Replies

sorry to bump an old thread, but can anyone advice how to actually get the bulb out of its holder? I went to fit uprated bulbs today, but just cant see how the old bulb actually comes out, yes I have the light unit out!

For dipped beam: Remove the rubber cover. Turn the connector with the light bulb up to the stop towards the left (it should only go one way anyway). Detach connector and replace bulb. Then reverse removal process.

For main beam: Remove the rubber cover. Detach the connector. Press the wire clip down and away from the bulb. Replace bulb. Put clip back. And continue to reverse process.

heh, I really should have checked that in the manual, I dont remember the pre FL manual telling you how to do it, I just assumed it wouldnt, I did it differently! rather than twisting the clips I popped them out with a screwdriver, lol!

My first set lasted approx 8000 miles, which were sent back to Phillips and replaced F.O.C. Replacement second set went again at around the same, given up on them for now and got Osram Original equipment back in over the summer months before trying something else this winter when they are really needed ( pothole searchlights ) They are good but expensive to keep on replacing if you are doing any sort of a higher mileage. Will be looking for something with more of a lifespan but with similiar performance next time.

Side Note. Phillips Blue Visions lasted 18500 miles but are pretty pants compared to the X Tremes.

Noticed vision plus are better but now one of them has gone, replaced with OEM Philips for the summer and either going Bosch Pure Light ( which bestbuy ) or bite the bullet and go Osram Silverstar/ Nightbreaker for next winter, had enough of Philips and their short expiry life, would expect at least one winter season driving life but no, time and time again they let me down, as for their customer service dept... no wonder the company has lost millions recently.

I wasn't happy with the light output from the standard fit bulbs, so replaced them with Osram Nightbreaker II, which proclaimed on the packaging they were longer lasting than the original Nightbreaker.  The passenger side went after approx 12 months/10k.  Luckily I was near a Halfords and replaced both with Halfords Extreme Brilliance and I couldn't really tell the difference between the two.  However, I find regardless of what bulb are fitted that the light output appears to be too low.  When I pointed this out to two separate dealers they stated the lights were within the appropriate tolerances.

As an aside, kudos to Skoda for fitting a light out warning light, otherwise I would have been none the wiser to the bulb being out.

Having done a fair amount of testing I reckon the Phillips Extreme are not worth the money. The difference over standard is so small as to simply not be worth spending £30 or whatever. Much better to splurge on a bottle of Chateau Mussar and a nice sandwich. :-)
