Click4Gap says that if you don't buy the policy within 3 months of first registration then they'll only cover up to its market value at the time you take out the policy - not its invoice or replacement cost.

They also say that they're aware that most insurers do new for old in the first year, and they take this into account when they set their premiums (i.e. they're aware that very few people will claim in the first year).

Still seems like a good deal to me - I think I'll take out one of these online policies when my new car arrives in June.

Glad this question came back to life now as I was oblivious to the requirement of needing to take it out within x days (90 for click4gap which is more expensive, 45 days for ala which is cheaper).
