Engine problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

my car is a Skoda Fabia 1.4 74kW 04 and I have a problem with the engine. It turns off suddenly while driving. Usually when I'm starting to accelerate but sometimes when I'm driving without pressing the gas. I'll have to turn power of for few seconds to start the engine again and when I'm starting the warning lights will start to light. Warning lights are EPC, the one wich looks like engine and sometimes ASR- light. This problem has caused already one dangerous situation on the road.

My car has been in service two times for this problem but they don't know what to do. Can you help me, please.

Welcome to Briskoda.

I would have thought such a dramatic fault would result in fault code(s) being stored in the ECU.

Impossible to say what is causing this without a code scan, sorry.

Garage needs to determine if it's electrical, or a fuel problem.

Good luck.

It's very difficult to diagnose without the fault codes. I've come across it a few times on separate models and the cures have ranged from something as basic as replacing the fuel pump relay (on a 16V), brake light switch (also on a 16V), dash panel (on a 8V) and complete engine bay wiring loom (on a 8V).

Okay

I' have to pay one of those OBD readers because the service never let me know those fault codes. They only give me big bills :)

But I think that the problem is electrical because the stop is always total. So you can't get engine running with trying to strart it with gear while still moving.

Thank you

As others say, you need a scan; however I had exactly similar symptoms with my 1.4TDI and it was one of the sensors controlling timing.

The cheaper OBD readers don't display full codes for everything. Can you contact anyone with VAGcom? If not, try another VAG dealer for a scan.

Best of luck. Please let us know what happens.

All the best, and welcome :)

I just called to my little brother and he said that santa will bring me OBD reader with VAG-com software :)

The problem is also that I'm living in the north of the Finland and there is only one service station near me.

Today my cars odometer shows 205000km(about 127000miles) and this is the first real problem with it.

Merry christmas to all of you!

You have an evaporation system control fault. The charcoal canister that stores unburnt fuel/fumes, maybe getting purged into the engine at the wrong time. It also looks like this is being caused by a wiring fault, as you have comms errors between system modules.
