The old "reverse groaning/squeaking" problem

Featured Replies

My Fabia Vrs Did This From New And I Took Out The Rear Pads And Deglazed Them On Sand Paper And Then Added A Kent Additive To Them And Refitted Them And I Haven't Heard A Noise Since.

Hi guys, i cant seem to view the "fix" thread?

any ideas?

Thanks

Chris

Fix thread has been withdrawn for the moment.

As Boyced quite rightly said the problem is a resonance in the rear beam and calipers (dont get the problem on the 4x4). Balance weights have been added to the calipers that absorb the groaning vibrations, damping them out. We have some weights fitted to a vehcile that is being tested atm, as long as they are deemed sucessfull a techncial bulletin will be made up and sent to dealers, please be patient we would like to make sure this is a definate fix before it is issued.

Ross,

Any idea how long the testing is likely to take? I took my car into the dealer for this and a couple of other issues, and they claimed they couldn't replicate the noise. But that was a couple of weeks ago and it's gotten progressively worse. I reversed the other day and it sounded like the air horn on an HGV, it was so loud! :thumbdwn:

Anyway, the car is going back in for the other issues to be addressed at the start of Jan 05 so if the bulletin has gone round by then it should mean they can't fob me off again... here's hoping... :D

JUT,

if you dont mind me asking, what were the other issues?

Instrument cluster managed to crack itself  , high beams were badly adjusted (which they made worse by aiming them at the floor 10ft in front of the car, then I corrected them myself :thumbdwn: ) and something else I don't remember now...

well we are plauged with this noise form the rear brakes, slow warm up, noise heater fan, and steering that goes very heavy on ocasion when parking???

Any1 else had the steering fault?

Spoke to the service manager at my dealer today... the car is booked in for the start of Jan and as it happens, his Furby has started making the same noise too... so he's been phoning around and I believe may have spoken to Ross or another dealer about the damping weights to soak up the resonance in the rear calipers... and apparently, they're going to clean up the calipers and fit these weights to mine when it goes in... apparently...

He said a general release hasn't gone around about the fix as yet, but he has been speaking to a few other dealers because his car started making the noise. Just as well really, because last time I took it in they told me there was nothing wrong with it!!! Will update in the new year once it has been in and *hopefully* been sorted... watch this space...

My dealer is still awaiting confirmation from Skoda on the testing as far as im aware. As soon as they have it mine is going in too.

Now that you mention it, I had the steering go very heavy last night whilst making a 3 point turn. Wasn't a problem though, cos I'm just plain manly I am :D

Just seeing this thread re-appear reminds me...mine hasn't groaned for about 4 weeks now. Don't know why...very odd.

I think my Skoda has changed sex

because hasn't moaned in yonks also

im upto bout 15k if that could be why

Knew I shouldn't have said that..started again

lol "sods law"

Mine does it now and again, I've found that after a motorway trip or a brisk B road drive, it then does it when I'm reversing into the old driveway.

Yeah my steering goes heavy when I'm parking sometimes, tbh it doesn't bother me as I could do with the work out :P

It has had a clonking noise from the front lefthand side of the car and from the rear, I'll keep an eye on it and see if it goes away. Might be worth clearing out the boot and glovebox before I take it in.

I think my car likes me. I've never had any troubles whatsoever with groaning, squeeking, rattling or anything peculiar noises...

:D

Is this on later models? My 2001 don't make a sound!!
