Ignition barrel replacement

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just seeking advice on the best option to rectify my failed ignition barrel. The AA chap removed the ignition barrel and suggested contacting an auto locksmith who in turn informed me I had to order direct from the dealer. I've since examined the barrel and discovered a very poor quality casting that sheared off approximately half way through the sealed unit.

I understand I can buy a new barrel with a new key which I can attach to my existing fob/transponder. Am I correct in assuming my old key can still be used to open my existing door locks?

My next option is to have an igniton barrel assembled specifically to fit my key. This unfortunately can take upto a month to be delivered.

Is it possible to buy an igintion barrel with key from a car breakers and swap the key onto my existing fob?

Seeing as it's a VW part which VW model uses the same ignition switch?

Can anyone recommmend outlets to buy new or a second hand ignition barrel?

Is it straightforward removing the pin holding the key onto the fob?

Many thanks in advance
