Fabia VRs Chipping?

Featured Replies

Hi people. New to the forum.

Think im posting the right sub forum.

Currently Drive a Vx220 Stage 2 with few mods. But after new year/spring time i will sell up due to money issue's ( No overtime @ work :( ) Looking at buying fabia vrs the limited edition with all the extra mods.

Been told there chippable which takes them to 180bph?

I was woundering if you guys/gals knew any info on the chipping process? IS it worth it? Price? Would you recomend?

Chers in advance Thanks Jim

Welcome to the forum. I think this thread should have been posted in the Fabia I section if you're looking at the limited edition VRS. I've had my VRS remapped (guy came to my house with a laptop, plugged it into the car, 15 mins later the car is remapped). You do get a lot of extra shove, and it revs better, once it's moving the acceleration is immense especially good for overtaking. Bear in mind this can strain the stock clutch though, the proper way of doing it is remap + uprated clutch.

It's never very nice to be short of money. Would it not be cheaper to get a stock 1.9 TDI and chip that. The on costs per year would be lower (Insurance and tax). Do you REALLY need 180bhp?

Hi Jim and welcome to the forum

This section (unless the post is moved by the Mods) is for the latest Fabias (mark 2s) which don't have a vRS yet (hopefully next year). The Limited Edition (normally called Special Edition or SE) was the last of the Fabia Mk 1s.

Remaps are common for the vRS and there are many threads about it on here, so I would use the button above named "Search". The company you use may depend on your location, so Where are you?

You have think about upgrading your clutch and you should inform your insurance company. ;)

Thanks from another Jim

Hi there, Thanks for the replys ah i got the wrong section, please can a mod move it if possabile. im talking about the 07 plate Vrs se that come in blue only, and think 1000 were made. The runnign costs are cheap and insurence is only group 9 compared to 19 + mods which my VX is currently on! Ah i see Remap plus uprated clutch. Makes sense Same on the Vx once over stage 2 uprated clutch is needed. Im located in surrey. Cheers for the replys and welcomes.

My advice would be to try the VRS and see what it's like with stock power. The SE uses the BLT engine, and most, if not all have more than the quoted 130BHP. Mine as standard sticks out 143BHP with no mods at all. If you map above 170BHP, it is very likely the stock clutch will start to slip. You are then onto the slippery slope of uprated clutches and flywheels which are not cheap (£500 to £1400) so if money is tight, leave it standard.

It's never going to have as much off the line poke as you VX, but mid range 30 to 70 grunt will blow you away  They pull like a train, and costs buttons to run and service.

It doesn't matter about horsepower figures i.e. 170+. Horsepower doesnt kill the clutch, Its torque that kills the clutch.

I would recommend going to a tuner that will dyno the car so you know exactly what power you're car is putting out.

My Vrs is running 170hp with 295ft/lbs of torque and the standard clutch doesn't slip at all. My remap cost £250 and was done in about 30 mins. Well worth it for the exta grunt.

If you drive the car properly you'll not have to worry about the clutch at all

Mate of mines used to run 186bhp with 314lb ft and after 30+k before he sold it never changed a clutch in it. Drop a gear instead of flooring it in the gear you're in and don't boot it below 2100rpm and you're clutch should last for ages.

I know another guy who's standard clutch has done 134k and the cars been remapped since he got it at 9k and it runs over 300lb ft
