NEW BOY ON THE BLOCK - WET ROAD PROBLEM

Featured Replies

I have recently bought my wife a second hand Skoda Fabia 1.4 16 valve - which is proving to be a fantastic car - but not without a few problems. It is very economical and quite fast. It has 85000 on the clock - having been owned previously by a vicar - so I suppose it has had a fairly "easy life" It is in very good condition - but has a few problems - which in spite of having a 6 months warranty - my excellent garage where purchased - has not been able to sort out.

1) The "engine" symbol warning light refuses to go out - in spite of several checks and bits replaced. My most immediate concern is that when travelling home to Cornwall - on a very wet M5 - the static engine warning light suddenly started to flash - and there was an immediate "misfire" I stopped for 30 minutes - re-started the engine - the flashing engine symbol stopped flashing - and the car ran like a dream - until we hit the next patch of very wet road.- and immediately the situation became "flashing engine symbol - loss of power"

I have now had this happen 3 times. The car is very prone to problems relating to very wet road conditions. Some part of the engine electrical system is obviously being effected by water/damp. As soon as the engine dries off - no problems - apart from the fact that the "engine symbol warning light" refuses to go off. The Skoda dealer has no answer to this problem . Has anybody experienced this - or has any answers - PLEASE ?

Sounds like water getting into soem electrics- maybe HT leads, or , as they are exposed to the road, the second Lamda sensor ?

Anyway, read this first.

Oh, and Welcome!
