Columbus issue or DVD problem - V6 Maps WE

Featured Replies

I have loaded the V6 maps onto my columbus today, and had an issue with the transfer.

I dont know if the cause of the problem was the brand of DVD-R used (Verbatim) but its the second time I have had the same problem when transfering maps. Basically the copy gets to about 80% and then aborts with a disk read error. After the error has occured I have to leave the headunit to cool down for a couple of hours and then try again, at which point it carries on from where it left off to completion. The last time I had the problem was with a modified V6 disk containing the BMW2010-1 map data, but that was also burnt onto the same brand of DvD-R.

The reason I went back to the official version of the disk with the older map data was to get TMC working properly again, as it didnt work right with the BMW data and also the better guidance detail, Lane Guidance and topographic data which is missing from the BMW data. For example with the BMW data I would get "Bare right soon", and with the V6 data I get "Bare right towards Heathrow airport soon" at exactly the same spot.

Hi Manny

think I have the same files for the V6 as you have, but not the problems transferring. Always burn my files for the RNS/Columbus on DVD+ at slow speed.

Also had the mixed maps on and returned to official maps. Not only because of the TMC problem and lane guidance but also because of the voice control.

What I did find out, is that after upgrading the RNS with a format of the disc, the V6 maps were on in just a couple of minutes, not as before after an hour or more.

As Magic has said,

Burn the disc at Slow Speed. The Disc media won't matter as long as it's done slowly AND verify it afterwards (mine is on a cheap disc)

Then all should be well.

Any Probs PM me and i may be able to provide "other" assistance ;)
