Console Bush Question

Featured Replies

it seems like they want to charge about £180-190 to get the job done. One place saying at least 2 hours (73+VAT per hour) and another saying 2-3 hours 180 (inc VAT) all fitted. The second said they drop the whole subframe and need a special tool to drag the bush in...Surely if i'm paying 180 the tracking should be completed as part of the price?

Local place in driff said they just don't have the tool to do the job. Given i've read so much on here i'm not sure what to do. From the stuff on here, do they even need a 'special' tool to do it?

Given this car has been to York about 2 years ago for the same thing to be done, apparently they now have modified console bushes as opposed to the rubbish ones. Are these any good or should I just get Cupra ones?

Finally, does anyone know any good independent in Hull/Driff/York area?

Cheers

Phil

I recently had the job done by Unit18 (who are probably to far away for you). See this special offer:

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/116470-fabia-cupra-console-bushes/

That was before VAT went back up, so the prices will be higher now, I guess. I got the full £250 job done. Took less than 3 hours for Ali to get it all done, and the results are pretty good.

That's a bit annoying - the gf's brother is on leave from Cambridge this year, so it's probably a bit too far. At least it appears that the dealer is not completely screwing me over. Thanks for the link though.

there is a really good diy guide on here somewhere just get them done yourself, then it costs about 16 quid the guide even tells you how to make the special tool to get the bush out.And yes just fit the cupra bush to start with then you won't have a problem in future

Part of me wants to do that, given there are 3 fabia vrs cars on the drive. However, i'm an accountant, and my DIY skills stop at self assembly furniture emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

unless you have a ramp to lift the car high in the air i wouldn't even attempt it. Watching Ali complete the work on mine seemed awkward enough. Let alone working under a car close to the ground

replacing console bushes cant possibly alter tracking...

That is an interesting but inaccurate statement I'd say! Well maybe not even interesting, just inaccurate - sorry. I think that you are making the wrong use of the term "tracking" - or you sure that you are not meaning "toe'ng" - but even that will change a bit after taking things to bits.

yh because you cant surley put evrything back in exactly the same position to the mm

I have done a lot of these now (Fabias, Polos and Ibizas - all much the same). Its easy if you lift the car both sides and remove the consoles (one at a time) and then cut out the old bush and press in the new Cupra part. The Cupra bushes are about £9 each. You can replace the front bush if you want (about £5 each from AVS VW spares) but they are as hard as iron and don't seem to wear much.

I can get a console off in about 15 mins. Another 15 mins to do the bush and 15min to refit. So about 1.5 hours to do the car.

The wheel alignment will possibly change a little because of the disassemby/reassembly - but not much - worth getting it checked though.

At my last service from main dealers they told me that I would need to get console bush replaced and having now read into it on here the Cupra one seems to be the way forward im assuming that this is the ibiza one but does anyone have a link to where I can buy one online or a part number so I get the right part?

ps main dealer quoted me £120 all in ( didnt ask about tracking)

Linky

This link should be working.

Do you mind saying who the dealer is. I've tried Skoda in Hull and York and they've both quoted 2 - 3 hours for the work. See above for the prices all in they quoted.

Phil

yea dealer is in Northern Ireland John Mullholand Skoda cheers for link worked a treat going to ask them to fit the part I want not the skoda rubbish one prob tell me no but im the customer

Well apparently there are some 'new' modified Skoda ones. I can't imagine they're much better than the original voided ones to be honest. Can you try to find out the labour time they're charging when you do get it done! Just go for the Cupra ones, then you won't get shafted two years down the line like I did!

am prob not going to get it done straight away but will call to enquire obviously vat going up 2.5% will put price up a lil but will only be a few quid more id think my car went in for a service just after I came back from being out of the country and they mentioned it in the lil post service report they gave me and I only missed out on having it sorted under warranty because I was away and didnt get back until it was 3 months expired lol gutted. My car being registered in NI means also that the first MOT isnt required until its 4th birthday so that will be mid this year hoping it will last until around then so I can get it done when i have it preped for MOT. Getting a slight judder when accelerating from low revs in 6th gear that I didnt before just for a few seconds im assuming that is the console bush being almost gone

I'm a carpenter ant the rule to self assembly is always add more screws..... and glue everything!!! rofl!! :)

Nah this is an easy job, £20 and skinned knuckle vs £200 odd. I know the route i would choose!! lol

You just need access to a press, simple really :)

Just supply the Cupra ones yourself. And I'd fit the Powerflex front wishbone bushes as well. Tightened everything up a treat last time I had it done

There's no way I'd risk going to the trouble and expense of having them changed if the solid Cupra ones weren't being fitted.
