engine overheating light

Featured Replies

hi new to the site i have a 06 plate fabia vrs.

when i come to the car in a morning and start the engine from cold the overheating light flashes on the dash. anyone know the cause of this please. if i let the engine run for couple of mins and switch it off and back on again the light does not re-appear.

dont know weather it makes any difference but the car has been re-mapped and runs perfectly operating at normal temp all the time when warm. header tank is filled upto max level and does not lose water

Mine also comes on, but these days it stays on. I've emptied the radiator, filled it with water and additives, and still it stays on, but shows that it's in the middle of the heating range (90 degrees). No idea what to do.

I thought it might be related to the computer system installed in the car. At one of my services I asked for the flashing and beeps to be turned off when my car was due for a service (as it was out of sync). Do you think that is the cause of this light coming on?

no idea skoda serviced my car before i bought it. only happened since the cold weather started. im taking mine for diagnostic check tomorrow and see if that turns anything up

Mmmm - mine is an X Reg unfortunately. Let me know what the result is won't you! ..... Happy New Year!

On another thread somebody mentioned that it may be a Faulty sensor on the header tank. Mine was doing the same when it was below zero a month ago. Put some contact grease on the connection and it has stopped doing it for the moment. I will probably change it if it does it again.

faulty header bottle causes this, either replace it OR remove the plug and connect both pics together with a paperclip or thin wire to turn the light off

Wot he said! Both our Fabias do this, and we've resorted to the bit-of-wire fix for now. You can scrape the terminals of the sensor if you have a header tank that allows you to do this, but neither of ours do. One day we'll sort it, but for now we just check the level in the tank periodically... :)

Same problem here, started after cambelt and water pump change (guess the tank went dry when drained and the strips oxidised). Bought a new tank last month ((£11.58 - discounted) and will fit when I have time.

Of course this is just because we're having for the first time in 25 years what passes for a real winter down here by the gulf stream so every morning its minus something and I get a beep to remind me!.
