Windscreen wipers extra wipe

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have done a quick search on this subject but can't find what I am looking for.

Anyway, when using the windscreen wipers to clean the windscreen, after the water has been sprayed onto the screen and the wipers do there 4 wipes, you get the EXTRA wipe at the end, which is a right pain in the rear, as the screen will be nice and clean and dry and then after a short delay the extra wipe comes along and smears the screen with muck again, and especially at this time of year.

If you are stationary, then this extra 5th wipe does not happen so I have to try to clean my screen when stationary which is not always possible.

Is there any way of me being able to stop this 5th extra wipe from happening or is it a case of taking it to a dealer to be done?

Any help or advice would be appreciated as it is really starting to get on my nerves.

My car is an 06 Octavia II Vrs and has not got the Auto wipers.

It's called a 'tear drop' wipe and is available for either the front or rear wipers.

It's able to be set up via VCDS or VAS so someone has had a tinker in the past :S

It was on as standard on many Octy II and is very irritating in the dirty road spray conditions we are seeing now.

As above it can be turned off in VAG-COM, so if you either say where you are or look on the VAG-COM owners list in that section you'll find somebody who will be able to help you for a few beer tokens.

If you're down south I may even be able to help.

Hi John999boy,

I don't think it is a case of some one having a tinker as I bought the car new from a dealer, unless they did it so it must be a case of what cheezemonkhai

has said in that it was/is a standard setting.

I am in Wrexham, North Wales and really need to get rid of this "Tear Drop Wipe" as was on the motorway today and what with the freezing conditions so not always being able to spray the screen due to the jets freezing up, when I was able to do so, the last thing I needed was that last wipe smearing crap all across the screen again as if I hadn't washed it so if anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

I bought a GT Golf (55) and had it on the rear by default so noticed straight away that it wasn't on my old 57 vRS when I bought that car.

The dealer could only initially put tear drop on for the front wipers (not what I'd asked for) and it wasn't until much later that it got VCDS'd to the rear wiper instead - due to similar problems that you're having!

I haven't had it activated on the FL as I don't really think it's necessary.

They should be able to help. I agree the problem you are having is exactly the reason i turned it off.

Hi cheezemonkhai,

Thanks for that info.

I have followed your link but can you tell me, as I can't seem to find, how you contact the member that you need as it says "If you want to contact a member please use the Send me a message facility".

I may have missed it or something, but not sure how to contact the member that is listed in Wrexham, where I live.

Cheers.

It's changed recently, but basically you can find a post by them and either click the envelope logo under their name, or click on their name above the picture and will find the send a message item on there. Otherwise you should be able to do it by going into the messaging section at the top, then the compose message at the top right.

Bear in mind you will need a member with micro-can or CAN+HEX for an octy II and that some people on there may no longer be active on the forums.

I'd have done it for you if you were closer, but that's one heck of a drive :)

Alternatively ask a delaer to switch it off at a service, or go in for that. It is not on on my 58 car, as it appears most people hate it, Skoda now have it set to off as default

Thanks guys for your help.

Will try to contact the member first or alternately, put up with it until next service, which is due in March, as has been there from new in 06, and then ask the dealer to alter it then (if the one I take it to is capable of doing so).

First thing I notice when I P/X'd in 2008. No extra wipe on the new car. Yippee!!!
