15 " wheels and 312mm brakes

Featured Replies

Hi All

Do 15" wheels fit over 312mm brakes. I can get some snow tyres at a good price also 15" steel wheels are as cheap as chips!!!

Many thanks

Simon

I doubt it!

My Golf has 288mm brakes on the front and the 15" wheels were very close to the calipers then.

With spacers you might do it.

Definately not.

16" is the smallest wheel that will fit over 312mm brakes.

not a chance.

I have 312's under 16" Spiders (and prevously under standard VRS wheels) and if i had double thickness wheel balancing weights I reckon they'd fouls the calipers

Cheap set of 16" steels would be the easiest option

Yeah. 16" steelies shouldn't be too hard to find, as they were standard fit on Mk4 Golfs, so you ought to be able to get hold of some that have been taken off in favour of some alloys (RS8 replicas, most likely!) There were some sat down the side of the local tip last time I was there, so I don't imagine they go for much if someone was just throwing them away...
