to chip or not to chip

Featured Replies

Hi all, i'm considering chipping my octavia rs and would love to hear from anyone who's done it. I'm a bit concerned about damaging the motor, so input and your experiences would be great. If you could let me know where you got it done and how much it cost, that would be a bonus. I'm in the manchester area.

Andy I'm sure there will be lots of input from satisfied chipped car owners (of whom I am one). Can I suggest in the meantime you go here and peruse the two articles entitled "Mods worth doing". You will be much better informed after that, and will be asking more questions, no doubt :D

Welcome to Briskoda. If you have any doubts about warranty implications, don't do it. But if you do chip/remap, you will be delighted with the increase in performance. And if you don't habitually abuse your car, you should not encounter any major problems with reliability. :D

Welcome, i would not worry about the warranty issues, because the remap is well worth it, trouble getting off the line at times - better to turn the stupid traction control off! Top end mine still pulls like a train at 140mph,150mph then i bottled it after i had shown an Audi S3 what for.

I did mine when it was 3 months old and the engine just bedded in at 7k miles. Dealer knows about it and has said nothing.

I only had a 'mild' re-map @ Jabba as I only run on normal unleaded due to my high mileage, but it still produced 225bhp!

I've covered 38k in it so far in a year and have had no problems and still have the smile on my face every time I put my foot down. - It's great for p'ing off BMW drivers
