wipers working but not washers (they are not frozen)

Featured Replies

Forgive me if there has been an answer to a similar situation already, I have done a search but to no avail.

Last week my wiper fuse went, this was fixed as it was in the garage the same day, now my washers have given up. I know it is bloody freezing out there but I have topped up the bottle and heated the washer jets, and still no joy. The pumps are not even making any noise.

Are the washers on a separate fuse to the wipers or could it be worse than just a fuse?

thanks in advance.

I have had exactly the same problem today along with a list of other problems, including intermittent setting not working on wipers, then wipers not working at all. Then glow plug light flashed up, Rear brake lights not working. Also when i lock the car all the indicators dont flash but they all do when i press the button to open it! I changed the fuse for the wipers and they now work but the intermittent setting still doesnt work, along with the washer jets!

(also just to add to it the alarm has just started going off!!)

Trip to the garage in the morning i think!

im having the same problem - my screen wash on the back dosen't work at all - the fronts work 10 mins after when i want them to and the other day my alarm just started going off for the fun of it. Took it to skoda and the bloke told me how to reset the alarm. Solved 1 of my 3 problems so im sort of happy

The screen washer stopped working on the drivers side this morning grrr.

The I remembered about the roof full of snow that got dumped over the screen

on the way home yesterday.

Sure enough, it was frozen snow blocking it :)

same problem here. only thing i would add to mine is that the pump doesn't seem to kick in when the demand is placed for screenwash.

HELP!

The washer pump is connected with the wipers iirc so you say the wipers are working but no pump noise, the bottle will probably be frozen as this was the case with mine this week and only thawed out yesterday thank god !!!

I'm not going to dilute screen wash in this weather because it will probably just freeze again !!!

maybe the pump isn't working due to the water in it being frozen

Done a bit of reading and am hoping that this is the cause, cheers.

Some simple advice, don't use your jets for at least 10-15 minutes (or until its been at full temp for a while) in this kind of weather! 99% of the time they'll be frozen and you'll either blow a fuse, smear crap all over your window or have the rear jet pipe pop off. This happens on most cars, I blew the fuse in my astra more times than i care to remember.

DanielVRS: has your rear pipe popped off at one of the 4 usual points? Check this post for locations: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/93030-rear-washer-jet-issues-help/page__view__findpost__p__1150674

It took me nearly 2 hours to get to work this morning in heavy traffic so everything was well warmed up and still no sign of them working at the end of the journey. I just hope the fluid is so solid the pump won't work, but won't be able to tell for some days to come judging by the weather forecast.

you using a mix of screenwash + water or just water? Would of thought either would of defrosted by then, but most my driving is done above 50 mph!

Using 50/50 atm, although tempted to go neat for a month or so till it warms up

My thoughts too. I must admit the mixture was a little on the weak side, so will go and purchase soom more washer fluid and bung a shed load into the bottle and see if that solves the issue.

Oooops :p must have been frozen in the pump as they are now working :D , at the front at least as I think my pipe has popped off for the rear yet again!
