Bluefin Question

Featured Replies

Hi all

Hope someone can answer my question.

I've got a 2007 Octi VRS PD.

Is there anything I need to know before I order Bluefin?

Such as:

1. engine management lights

2. DPF

3. Anything else I need to know.

I had Bluefin on my 2007 Focus ST and it worked really well.

Many thanks

Glen

Give Keith at JKM a call and he will tell you all you need to know about these!

Hi - I'm a ex Focus ST owner too, if only there was dreamscience for the Octy eh? :)

I'm looking at the same tho i think they options are more limited for the new TSI engine :(

Our STS supports both the PD engine and the TSI, might be worth a look before you order :)

my advice would be not to go bluefin. I had mine running bluefin @ stage 1 2 and 2+. would i ever go back to bluefin with my car or another.....No.

IMO opinion they are not the best avalable for the VAG range, jack of all trades master of none. Plus i have read a lot of things in the past and recently of people with the same sort of things to say about not being as good as others or experiencing issues as i did. Theyre customer service is good, and there are those who have had no issues at all.

Id reccomend that you go to a a tuner that deals specifically with VAGs. My reason for going bluefin as a pose to the likes or REVO were thati was based in germany so getting REVO fitted was an issue, bluefin could be done by myself at my home.

I eventually changed to shark performance and the difference in the ability of my car was huge and thats bearing in mind with no change of hardware on the car. It also had the benefit of coming wih a handset just like the bluefin as well so best of both worlds.

Bluefin arnt sh!t, but i dont think they are as good as the other options available.

just my two pence worth :S

I reaslise that re-mapping adds more power to the vehicle. How much extra power are you adding and at what cost will it be?

on a turbo'd(petrol or diesel) car you are realsitically looking at around a 30-35% increase.

more power isnt necessarily better though, the way its delivered is more important. it great having this massive spike of power for a short rev range , but a car with 10HP less but with it over a much longer rev range will be quicker and more drivable.

what car are you running

I'm waiting to take delivery of 1.8 tsi se est. Can't wait..

should get some commendable results with that i reckon. theTSI engines are very good. Not entirely sure if people have released software yet, shouldnt be long til they do though.

I have bluefin on my MK6 GTI with the TSI engine. Went to the Superchips HQ and had it done on the rolling road. Very happy with the results etc. 261bhp

not bad at all!

arfe there any hardware differences between the golf engine and the new post facelift vRS TSI?

id take those figures with a pinch of salt mate.

Superchips RR is widely renowned to be one of the highest reading dyno's out there. you'll find most people will laugh when you quote superchips dyno figures.

I only pay attention to Dyno dynamics rolling roads tbh.

for example, i had my car dyno'd at AMDessex and made 287hp(bluefin stage 2+), shark_90 had his dyno'd(shark perfomance stage 2) @JKM(widely renowned for accuracy) which made 260hp.

So mine allegedly was 27hp and around 15Ibft more powerful yet whos was quicker......not mine ill tell you that.

Here is A revo map of the new 2.0 TSI, notice the std figures are bang on what they should be.

Revo%20and%20Stock%20Marked%20Up.gif

do you have your graph from SC rollers that could be uploaded.

Id bet that the figures wouldnt be to disimilar to the above.

Yeah i guess it depends how the RR is calibrated but the car came back as puting out 240 in standard form and i was running it on 100 Ron so can only go by what i saw on the machine on the day. Alot of the edition 30 mk5 put out much more than 230bhp in there standard form so i know from other GTI's that the standard out put is normally much higher than stated.

i have witnessed and seen graphs for alot of cars put out bang on standard figures on dyno dynamics rollers, including k04 and k03 cars. that is the reason why they are the only ones i pay attention to. so many rollers over read by alot,

Saying that if your car put out 240 hp in standard form on SC rollers and 260hp when mapped according to the before and after runs then thats all the info you need. the perfomance increase.

So you had an increase of 21hp over your shown standard output.

IMO opinion that goes to show exactly what i said about bluefin from my own experience. they are way under perfoming compared to others. I actually thought my bluefin was quick until i swapped maps.

you see the REVO map above made 36hp 80Ibft. over the standard according to the above before and after plots.

Thanks for your opinions guys.

I'd love to have the Octy revo'd as i have done with the wife's fabia, cos the difference is awesome, but i'm told may have a problem

with the dpf.

does anyone have a revo'd vrs pd, but otherwise standard?

Cheers

give shark_90 a PM he'll be able to let you know any issues with the DPF etc and solutions

I can't agree with you; sorry.

I had my vRS TDI rolling road tested at JKM and it put out 189bhp. A few months later (in the summer) it was putting out 187bhp on Superchips rolling road at Buckingham HQ. Following a BlueFin remap by Superchips its now putting out 210bhp and 298 lb ft of torque.

Main benefit of Superchips' BlueFin is that you get a warranty with it that will double up over the Manufacturers warranty in event of a problem; good peace of mind if your car is less than 3 years old.

I see where you are coming from there bahnstormer, but I have seen a number of dyno plots from peope on SC rollers whwre they have read far higher than expected in std and tuned form. Ive found DD rollers to be very consistent in their figures. TBH though it is all a dyno lottery, what really matters on a dyno graph is the before and after plots of a remap, then you can see the gains.

either way though, from my personnel experience of bluefin in 3 stages of tune and also from the extensive amount of threads on other peoples issues and experiences with bluefin (Incorrect maps, underperfoming maps, hesitations and poor delivery)(although all of that was TFSI related though). when i first had bluefin i would have reccomended it to anyone, until i tried other maps such as REVO and shark pefomance, and then i realised they were in a different league.

that said there are exceptions are very own hedge went to a RR day recently on the mk5 forum meet, and wasup there with the revo outputs no problems, so they can do it.
