which new phone?

Featured Replies

my contract is up on my phone soon and i've started to look round,i really want the latest iphone but have some concerns with reliability,i'm not really into the apps thing,or having a gazillion megapixal camera.I rely on the phone for work so it has to be reliable, but i also want good internet and that can connect simply with my headunit,my brother was recently on about a hdm somthing or other that runs somthing called android? and said it would suit my needs down to the ground, what do all you geeks recon?

oh and who offers the best package for 35 quid a month?I am prepared to spend a little more every month if there are any stunning deals out there for a little more.

I've got a blackberry curve 8900 with unlimited internet and email, unlimited calls to landlines and some silly amount of minutes to mobiles for £34 a month from vodafone. One I would definitely avoid is the blackberry storm, I had 4 or 5 before I presuaded (by threatening them) vodafone not to give me any more of them!!

Hope this helps

how is the blackberry for music tho? and how do they connect to the car stereo? lead or bluetooth? i am with vodaphone at the minute, tho i'm on the wrong contract as last months bill was 173 quid!!!!!

i have a samsung tocco lite on orange for £30pm +as many mins as i could ever use, fone is great the battery lasts me over a week and i use it lots, it has good music storage and sync with my headunit via bluetooth, cant fault it really

GUessing your brother meant HTC, cos they run andriod.

I have an HTC hero, on tmobile for 25 a month with unlimited texts and internet.

Sounds like it should meet your needs, although tmobike can have poor signal. Also the Bluetooth on mine doesn't connect to anything, such as a satnav, so that could be an issue for you, but otherwise its good. And having gps means you can get satnav and traffic on it, which night be useful.

Battery is crap though so if you do overnight deliveries, I would get a car charger, otherwise see no reason why it wouldn't be good. Can also take apps etc if you want.

Hth,

Joe

it's pretty good for music and you can always download different media players from Blackbery App World if you don't like the built in one. I connect it to my aux in socket via a lead. Only thing it doesn't do is 3G but the wifi makes up for that TBH. If you need 3G see if they'll do you a bold. Just don't (and I really can't emphasise this enough) let them flog you a Storm. Check out the Vodafone e forum for the many hundreds of unhappy customers griping about these useless handsets!!

I've used the iphone too and on balance I prefer the proper keyboard of the blackberry for emailing and texting etc.

When you say stunning deals for 35/month, what are you expecting from a package? Few offer free internet usage with any decent usage amounts for that these days.

Have a look at the HTC HD2 on Vodafone. It out iphones the iphone, bigger screen, much faster processor, better battery and can even act as a wifi router!!! The only downside isn’t that it runs on Winmo6.5, but rather that it doesn’t have a lot of apps for it. But as you state that isn’t of importance. Check out the many videos and reviews on You Tube and tinterweb, it really is an alternative to the iphone.

Another vote for the HTC Hero (which T-Mob sell at the G2) running on Android.

Its the wise man's Iphone

wouldn't get the HD2 as it has problems sending sms messages. I'm considering getting the nokia N900 but might wait for the motorola milestone

It’s an interesting one that. There have been reported problems with the HTC Hero too, but it seems to be mainly a Vodafone issue. Something to do with the HTC client rewrite of the MS prog and that not getting on with Vodafone. Fixes are claimed to be out there and I have just realised I had forgotten that the HD2 is only for Business customers on Vodafone……….Doh!

If you can wait a short time then this will be a major player: - Google Nexus One

Its coming on vodafone (UK) for certain but not sure about the other carriers.

Think Orange is looking to take it in Spring, but under the HTC banner

Forget about processor speeds and screen sizes and Androids and whatever else, just go to the Apple shop and get an iPhone 3GS. They simply work very well. Not had any reliability issues with mine, brilliant for Internet, music and movies. The only downside is having to 'sync' with iTunes. I hate iTunes.

I'm considering having it jailbroken just to get rid of flipping iTunes. There will probably be a load of nay Sayers along in a minute to denounce the evil of the iPhone and it's grotesque inventor, Steve Beelzebub Jobs. All I can say is that this is the 1st phone I've owned for over 12 months during which time I haven't been checking review sites every week to see when something better is coming along.

Having used an iphone a few times, the only bad thing I would say about it is, it isn’t very good at making phone calls. Voice quality is poor. :(

mINE IS £34.75 A MONTH and that is unlimited internet and email, unlimited landline cals and 900 mins of mobile cross network

I'm currently on an £35 18 month contract with vodafone but it's half price for the first 15 months. This isn't by one of the unachievable redemption contracts but just by phoning vodafone as a new customer.

After just under 16 months have elapsed then an upgrade will be available so if I do go ahead at that point then I'll have only had 2 weeks or so at the full contract price!

That includes an htc magic, 600 minutes, unlimited texts & internet.

Obviously they don't advertise this tariff but phone their sales line and if the first CSA doesn't oblige then just phone back and get another who will!

As my tariff won't be much good to a chin wagger like you Gary, just ask then for 50% off a tariff that will suit.

i'm off to look round the high street when the weather clears,it seems i may be able to get a better deal on a buisness tarrif

Look online. The stores from experience wont better their online prices - and many offer better deals online anyway.
