Im going for the PD engine guys VRS TDI

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Im going for the PD engine

I've seen that the PD is a more reliable engine for high miles, i know it has more torque at low revs too, but tax is slight more costlier.

PDs are bad engines are they ?

The PD engines have issues with the DPF. It is my understanding that there are fewer DPF issues with the CR unit.

There is a software upgrade to sort out DPF issues on the PD vRS, it should be installed when the car is serviced so any car now bought from a main dealer should have the update applied. The PD and CR engines both have DPFs, so should in theory be exactly the same regarding issues. Anyhow its now possible to have the DPF removed from the vRS, although it does cost a lot as it includes a new exhaust downpipe minus DPF and the necessary software changes to map out the DPF from the ECU.

I've had the upgrade and two subsequent differential pressure sensors! The car should be suited to the DPF as it does big motorway miles.

We have a PD Octy 2 VRS and a CR170 Superb and the CR engine is much much nicer , its smoother, quieter and more economical

We have had our Octy for about 3 years and 60k its had a couple of sensor failures and its had a different map which made it much nicer to drive but left it feeling a little down on peak power , I certainly wouldnt call it a bad engine it tends to average about 42mpg on the daily commute of 25miles on the motorway its been as high as 48mpg on a long trip in France (both figures according to the obc) the CR engined Superb is about 5mpg better across the board its doing 47-59mph according to the OBC and has averaged more or less 43mpg actual based on fill to fill although that might drop in this cold snap

I had a PD vrs for 2 and a half years as my company car and loved it to bits. Its not as quiet as the CR but I found it more fun to drive. The explosion of power was very addictive !! PD or CR you wont be disappointed.
