Has anyone has any success in removing the headlight units as per the manual to change bulbs?

I have removed the white nut at the back and pulled out the little metal hockey stick to its stop (only a few mm ??)

The headlamp is loose but will not come out - what am I doing wrong??

Didnt pull hard enough, should come out a couple of cm.

Than the hardest part, getting the connector of the unit.....

Nice one - took a good tug with a pair of pincers but they moved eventually. Bit of WD should make it easier next time...

The hockey stick pulls more than a few mm. Pretty hard pull needed but I managed it on my FL. Leave the white nut on the last thread as a safety measure until the catch is released. The headlight then moves forward easily. No obvious way to disconnect the cable plug so I just upturned the headlight unit and left it on a stool to work on (carefully not dropping it).
