Buying a 2008 VRS TDI (PD)

Featured Replies

Folks,

Apologies if this has been covered but in searching I have not found a complete answer (if there is one, sorry). Basically I am about to buy a 2008 VRS TDI (PD) with 20k on the clock. I am wondering what are the main issues related to this car and what I should specifically look out for when I go to look at the car? In general are these cars reliable? Thanks in advance

Biffo,

Sorry I haven't got any real techie info re this car, but if you want an endorsement ? I owned a PD VRS (bog standard) for 20 months from July 07. It covered 24,000 miles and never gave me any problems whatsoever ! The only time it saw a dealer was on PX day for my current LE.

It was by some way the best car (including my current VRS) I have owned.

Not much help probably but better than getting a "What a lemon" response ?

Thanks for that curleybar...anybody else?

I would just make sure that its had the 26E6 software update and exhaust sensor change for the DPF done to it.

Other than that, I had one for 18,000 happy miles with no issues.

I'd personally suggest trying to push the boat out in finding a CR engined version if at all possible

Hi Brimma,

I have driven both and I quite like the way the PD delivers the surge of torque so I'm not fussed which I get. However the one I am looking at is a PD and as i know the chap that owned it previously I am swaying towards it. Overall the only issue that is cropping up seems to be around the DPF...is there anything else I should be checking for? Again thanks to all respondents on this.

I too would suggest looking for the CR. It does not bother some people, but the sound of a diesel revving beyond 4000 rpm ain't the best noise in the world. Even in the CR.

I dont think the noise of a diesel revving bothers diesel owners at all - that's why we have them ;)

I have had my PD for just a few weeks now so can't really give you any help, mine only has 18k on the clock and is wonderful to drive! :)

I really wouldn't worry about the DPF. It should have had 26E6 update and anyway, if it were to develop problems down the line, just take it off.
