Fitting an MDI for an i-pod

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a late 2009 Superb SE ordered and delivered before the MDI was available as a factory fitted option - I notice it is now in the brochure. I think the MDI is what allows you to control and see the i-pod through the stereo. Does anybody know whether a dealer could retro-fit one of these. I think I am right in saying that without one of these I can only listen to my i-pod on the Bolero, and not see or control it. Bit thick about these things, so any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks. Great car by the way.

Hi Vanguard,

Dealer can easily retrofit this kit to your Superb. Will give you full touchscreen control over the iPod, and you can also get different leads to allow Aux-in and USB connection as well.

In actual fact, if you've any skill with a screwdriver, you might be better fitting it yourself. I've done several now, and it's really not that hard.

Cheers,

Bagpuss.

Thanks Bagpuss

I'm not too handy with the screwdrivers - a bit like Blue Peter, I need adult supervision. I will let you know how I get on at the

dealer.

Thanks Bagpuss

At least here they say that you can`t order that MDI from the skoda -dealer yet as retro-fit. This situation may vary depending on the country. Those i-Pod- and USB-wires are available.

But if skoda-dealer doesn`t have that, then go to the nearest VW-dealer, they do.

The radio is extremely easy to remove, simply by removing that plastic collar surrounding the radio with a little screwdriver, for example, and the radio is attached by 4 screws. Not very hard.

I've retrofitted a few, its not complicated at all

Dan, whats involved in the aftermarket retrofit? What does the hardware look like, where does it go? Also, Im presuming you need access to VCDS to code it?

Thanks.

I have 2.0 DSG and would also like the MDI fitting - Went back to dealer were car came from and asked for a price.

Once they understood what I wanted they came back with a price of £301 just for the parts and had no idea what was involved in fitting it and how long it would take so they could not give me a cost.

Does the price sound right for the parts?

Does anyone know a dealer who has fitted these.

Andy

If you are looking at a retrofit then I would just go for the Dension 300 gateway instead as the cheaper and better option.

The Dension has the added advantage that you can use the AUX, ipod and USB connections all at once (selecting inputs via the Bolero). You cannot do that with the MDI and have to swap over cables.
