Gloop + Inflator but no Jack!

Featured Replies

Again, collected my 2WD SE CR 110 today. I did NOT order the spare wheel package.

On checking the boot I have the gloop and the Inflator but no jack. Is this right.

Am I never expected to take off a wheel?

Yup!

If you want the jack & other bits it's a special order from the dealer at approx £57.

Thanks Indiana

I'll have to try the jack I kept back from my scrappage Passat.

Their thinking is that if you've not got the spare wheel, why are you going to need to jack it off the ground? I can see their logic in some ways....

As Wardy says, if your tyre punctures, you gloop it and reinflate. Then you drive to your local tyre place and sit around for hours while they mend it or sell you a new tyre!!

Better make that two tyres

From the handbook under a warnings heading:

• Do not, where possible, replace individual tyres but at least replace them on

both wheels of a given axle at the same time. Always fit the tyres with the

deeper tread depth to the front wheels.

Always been considered best practice with Haldex systems to have the same brand and pattern on all 4, defiantly on the same axle (as with any car) with a minimal tread depth difference between tyres on a given axle and no more than 3mm between axles.

Does the tyre pressure monitoring system work with differing tread depths on the same axle? Presume once it's reset it is happy, n'est pas?

Same here; no spare wheel. I too have the 2WD 110bhp without the spare wheel option. I'm not sure why I need a jack but the car feels incomplete without one!

Contents 'under the carpet' appear to be:

'Gloop' tyre sealant, looks like a pressured cylinder.

Electric air pump.

Locking wheel bolt adaptor

small silver wrench - what is this for?

No towing eyes - Does anyone else without the spare wheel option have towing eyes (these screw into the front or back of the car so that towing rope can be attached) ?

Hi aero,

Yes will only have kittens if it senses a difference between wheels after it's set.

Mind you when I switched to the smaller winters I forgot to reset before I drove off from the tyre fitters, didn't bat an eyelid but all four were obviously identical which I think explains it.

Although as posted above best avoid running with different tread depths on the same axle with Haldex.

The wrench you mention if it's like the one in the photo below, then it has a Torx bit one one end, this is for undoing the screws that hold the rear light units in place so you can change a bulb. The other tool in the photo is for removing wheel trims.

Do have the spare option and this includes a tow eye.

Hi TP - ta for that info on the TPM system.

I used the little plastic tongs to pull the wheel nut covers off on mine when I removed the wheels to copper grease the hubs and bolts and it works brilliantly! I presume you only get this with the spare wheel option?

Towing eyes :mmm: I think that they will be little more than lashing or tie-down locators as found on most cars. The Yeti has some off road potential, I do not think that I would like to be yanking on its chain if it got stuck in the mire! I think that the screw in eyes might possibly pass for short distance tows but they would not stand any great amount of stress and strain. Something better will have to be developed for serious extraction. In the first instance, I will be getting the tow bar prep, as at least that will take some sort of abuse. The load will then be spread on a properly designed mounting. It should be possible to have a large eye or ring made up to locate where the towing hook normally goes. Then at least if the car obliges wh does get stuck to leave its behind poking out, something a little more solid will be presented, so that the car does not get torn in hal at the first pull. In the long term, for those going off piste, something better than the front lashing eyes will need to be made up, preferably two good strong points so that shackles can be threaded through and spreading the load. The towing Y or V bridle will have to be long enough to make a shallow included angle, so as not to cause a crushing force when under tow that would crumple the two recovery points together. I beleive that tow bars for distant towing are better than ropes particularly with dead engines. They prevent the towed car from pranging the towing car as cars with dead engines do not have servo assisted brakes. These would be better mounted centrally. Tow bars give a more relaxed tow because they take the stress an uncertainty out of the process, particularly for inexperienced towers and towees!

Obviously a question for those with standard configuration not us belt and braces brigade  but I would have thought anything remotely to do with changing a wheel would not be supplied.
