Interior Lamp Problem....

Featured Replies

The interior lamp no longer works when the O/S/R door is opened on my Octavia Estate Elegance TDi110. The red tell-tale lamp on the dash doesn't work either when this door is opened. Everything works properly when all the other doors are opened. The central locking works normally, and I have checked it using VCDS which shows no fault codes on the central convenience module.

I disconnected the multi-plug on the O/S/R door pillar to try to establish where the fault may lie. VCDS indicates a communication error on the relevant measuring block when this plug is disconnected, and shows 'Door Closed' when reconnected. This suggests to me that the fault is inside the O/S/R door. I removed the door trim and found that the door switch seems to be an integral part of the central locking solenoid. I don't know whether the door switch is normally open 'NO' or normally closed 'NC', but I can only assume that whichever it is the switch stuck or broken in the opposite position, which would explain why VCDS shows no fault code.

I've become stuck here, and can go no further. Any pointers would be gratefully received.....

Hi There, I can more or less state it is your door lock mechanism. There is a number of microswitches in that mechanism and one control's when the door latch is open and closed. When that fails it does not know the door is open and also will not trigger the red light on dash as they perform the same task.

I did a how to guide to replace the actual microswitch which is very fiddly job and may not be your cup of tea.

However the guide is good to show you how to remove panel and get to the locking mechanism, should you which to just replace the complet unit.

Here is the link to the guide:

Thanks for that. It's pretty much confirmed what I thought.....
