make sure its set to discoverable, its why my HTC would not connect the first time. Also might be worth searching for the skoda's bluetooth and adding it to your list of devices.

As far as I know Sony Ericsson phones do not support RSAP (Remote Sim Access Protocol) which is a requirement in order to connect to the new GSM III Bluetooth kits fitted in the latest Octavia FL.

Our Sony-E phones all connect to our Audi with full sim access, so i cannot see why it would be a problem.

I'm having the same problem connecting a basic Nokia . Can someone explain in plain terms how to enable RSAP and connect via bluetooth.

Sorry, phones and computery type thingymibobs are not my strongpoint

RSAP allows the bluetooth system to access your phone & use the SIM card and all of the numbers on the phone, plus some of the features on it such as voice activated dialling. In essence the car becomes the phone.

If it can't fully access the phone & SIM card then you either won't be able to use the phone or at best have extremely limited use of the phone. RSAP is becoming the norm for in car BT systems.

How do I get RSAP to access my phone>

On my last Audi I simply sat in the car and paired the phone to the car, is this different

Thanks

RSAP will be a setting on the phone, not on the cars BT system.

If it's not in the phones settings menus then it's not in there & the phone isn't likely to be 100% compatible, so you may need to change the phone.

Mobile phones compatible with the Bluetooth® system

Mobile phones on the ‘3’ network are incompatible with the Bluetooth® phone preparation on Octavia.

The phones on ‘3’ are unable to switch to rSAP mode and will therefore not work on this system.

It says K550i works yet I just get 'Mobile not compatible'.

I have tried C902, c501 and K550i. Even if there isnt full sim access surely it shoudl connect ? Myphone cannot even find the Car's bluetooth system.

I am now fed up.

If the phone does not do RSAP then it will not connect, as others said, it should be under the BT menu on the phone.

Mine seems to be a strange one, I activated RSAP on my Blackberry to get it connected. I upgraded to an IPhone, the IPhone does not have RSAP, but it recognises the kit in the same way, I have no contacts stored on the SIM, just the ones that are synced via my exchange server.

It seems that there are exceptions to the rule, but there are no hard & fast rules as to what will work & what will not.

To enable RSAP on a typical Nokia:

Go to:

Menu

Control Panel

Connectivity

Bluetooth

Scroll down to Remote SIM mode & toggle to ON

This is typical for E & N series phones with Symbian operating system, but most Nokia menus will be structered in a similar way.

If you don't have Remote SIM mode in Bluetooth settings, then the phone does not have RSAP.

HTH

John.

There seems to be a lot of confusion re RSAP. What it stands for is Remote Access SIM Protocol.

In general terms what it means is the the car becomes the mobile phone and uses an in built aerial and the cars infrastructure (radio system usually) to make and recieve calls. It effectively just borrows the SIM card to gain access to the mobile network. The benefit is better phone performance in car.

The other method of Bluetooth access (such as a "hands free" kit) is to simply transfer the voices and commands from the kit to and from the phone handset. The phone handset is making and receiving the calls using it's antenna.

RSAP is technically a much better and more reliable system but the problem is that not all phone manufacturers support it.

RSAP will be a setting on the phone, not on the cars BT system.

If it's not in the phones settings menus then it's not in there & the phone isn't likely to be 100% compatible, so you may need to change the phone.

My phone is a Nokia 3109 which is on the list but I cant find anything on the connectivity about RSAP

The list of suported phones in brochure is not complete.

My Samsung SGH-I900 Omnia works perfect in my RS, but is not in the list.

Another thing is that I cannot add the car to my devices as the phone doesnt find anything. The car finds the phone though - just then says in compatible. I think there must be something I need to do with the car as it isnt connecting even to a phone that is advertised as compatible in the brochure i.e K550i.

You cannot just pair a phone even if its listed as compatible, by default on nearly all handsets that support RSAP the option is disabled. This is certainly the case on all Nokia handsets, you need to go into the bluetooth settings and enable it otherwise it wont pair or find the car. The phone will without the option enabled be searching for a device that supports the headset protocol, since the RSAP kit does not, your phone wont display it as device to connect to. Look in the menu for things like "RSAP", "Remote Sim Mode", or simillar, usually in the bluetooth or main phone settings menu.

The list posted earlier is way out of date and doesnt even list any recent handsets, so there is little point in using it as a guide.

Its also worth pointing out, that in the UK we get the GSM 3(RSAP) kit, whereas some other markets the older GSM 2 kit which although works with more phones is older technology and has poorer sound quality, and supports less functions of the car.

  • Author

Sony's dont have any RSAP settings to turn on. They all work fine with my audi giving total sim access. I think my Bluetooth unit is faulty / not set up.

Does the Audi have the older GSM 2 module, or the new relativley recent GSM 3 RSAP one though.

  • Author

The Audi probably has the older unit - the point is, the phone allows full access to the sim so it shouldnt be a problem.

But on top of that I have tried a k550i which is on the list and that also will not connect.

Ok - loads of searching and I have spoken to many people.

Sony-Ericsson tell me that their phones will not connect to any RSAP system. Skoda are getting back to me as to why they have put total rubbish on their literature.

Blackberry 8900 Curve - the trick as has been put elsewhere, is to put into 'listen' mode not 'Search'. Then it connected immediately.

All I can say is, what a mess !

D

If you really want to live dangerously buy a sim free nokia 5800 for around £159-200, that has RSAP.

Just picked the new Octavia vRS up - delighted with it except my SE C902 will not connect to the bluetooth phone system. Having searched the forum everybody says the c902 works fine - any suggestions what I can do ?

D

I can report the same issue with my C902 with the bluetooth kit in a March 2010 build octy

Seriously this is complete and utter insanity. There is no way on Gods green earth that a car manufacturer should be fitting a kit that ONLOY uses RSAP. The sooner manufacturers realise that the vast majority of people out there do not have RSAp phones the better. VW could easily offer a simple module plug in to make the kits either RSAp or no RSAP or better still, offer both options in the same unit and stop ****ing everybody off! The amount of posts on this forum about this issue shows that this IS AN ISSUE!!

DTRIGGS - if it was me I'd give Skoda a right *******ing.

I installed a non-RSAp kit in my Skud because I wanted the maximum flexibility but I understand the differences, most people do not and cannot be expected to!

Sort it out VAG and do it soon otherwise more people will be giving you grief.

Rant over!emoticon-0136-giggle.gif
