Retrofit Passat Submarine Lighting to Octavia 2

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My dad's Passat has great submarine lighting which illuminates the cabin at night with a red glow.

Does anyone know if it's possible to retrofit this (or similar) to my Octavia vRS?

I know it was a popular mod for Mk4 Golfs where they would fit a W8 Light in which looks similar to the interior light unit in the octavia

I have this in my Mk5 golf and would want to add this to any future car I buy (hopefully a FL VRS 2.0T )

Can anyone confirm if it will fit?

I have a W8 light fitted in my 2007 L&K, I had to modify the connector as I found the sunglasses holder mechanism fouled it in it's original position as it points towards the rear of the car when fitted, I had to cut the plastic connector and bend it back on itself 180 degrees. You also have to run an additional cable from the rear of the light switch to make the main LEDs and red backlit symbols work in conjunction with the dimmer.

Looks 100% OEM when fitted and don't listen to people who moan it isn't green like the rest of the illumination, it is red for a reason :dull:

Another possible mod to have ambiente lighting, is to fit a Touareg mirror. But only for the pre facelifted octi² RSs, the newer facelifted octi² has a different mirror.

I have a black Touareg mirror in my car. Has two red LEDs that are shining downwards.

Partnumber should be 7L6857511B

Is an example, you can see the LEDs in the base of the mirror.

The biggest problem with the W8 light is, that it is in grey or beige.

It is plug and play. First you have to dismantle the rainsensor (plastic cover), than you disconnect the wire.

Now you have to lever the mirror out of its holder.

Either connect the mirror and put it in its holder or put it in its holder and connect the wire.

Put the plastic cover back on and enjoy the ambiente lighting.

It automatically switches on when you turn on the ignition.

Do you know if 7L68575119B9 is with rain sensor and auto function?

Thanks

Anders

EDIT: Found the picture on the ebay artickle, and can see that the 9B9 I found was an extension of the part number. It will fit into my 2006 Octavia RS ;)

@Dan

You are right, ever opened the mirror? I did, not a recommendation.emoticon-0105-wink.gif Opening the mirror will always leave marks in some degree.emoticon-0106-crying.gif

The original mirror already has the holders for the leds that are in the Toua mirror, but the main printboard has some differences.

Somewhere in the 9 pages, there are pictures of the inside of the mirror.
