Questions - Running In And Track Day Insurance...

Featured Replies

Right then helpful, knowledgeable dudes...

My spanking new vRS should be in my hands on Friday. Who can give me running in tips?

Not thinking about any sort of mods (yet, anyway) but would imagine in standard trim the car will still be a hoot on a track day. What do you guys do for insurance on these days?

Regards,

Mark

Running in? Well opinions are divided on this one. My thoughts:

For the first 500 miles don't exceed 3,500rpm. 501-1000 don't exceed 4,000. Use full throttle sometimes, don't let the engine labour (eg 25mph in top then floor it without changing gear).

Track day insurance? Don't use it myself. Some policies (eg through Greenlight, see discount section) allow up to 5 trackdays per year, you just notify them in advance and you are covered.

There are specialists such as Eggar Lawson (sp) and Competition Car Insurance, but you are looking at about

Don't know about the vRS, but when I picked up my 1.8T, I asked the dealer about running-in. He said "Don't exceed 120 MPH for the first 1000 miles" :D

(edit) Ooh, just hit 100 posts! Only another 400 to go...

I think the handbook suggest no more than 3/4 max revs for the first 1k miles.

Jon is right about varying your revs and not allowing the engine to labour.

Can't think of anything else.

Enjoy.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Thankyou one and all.

This "up to 5 track days a year" insurance deal sounds intriguing...

Mark,

Aye, as above for running in. Re track day insurance, you have a few options, some poilcys include as Jon says have a certian number gratis. Others the greenlight one I was considering, you can get a fully comp day at 65 quid, the other option is a specailist who will give a range of prices depending on what you want covered. I looked at a few and for a "body cover" eg, loosing a wing to the armaco 6k dmg max it was around 80 quid. Fully comp was not worth it! Just drive technically rather than maxing the needles :)

Friday, Enjoy it !
