1.8TSI Oil Usage

Featured Replies

I always understood VAG engines to be partial to a sip or two of the amber nectar so I checked my oil at 500 miles and it was fine.

I checked again on Sunday and at 200 miles it was still over sitting happily at about 75% on the dipstick.

Understandably I am pleased at this, are these new engines known to be tee-total?

I presume you mean 2000 miles? Ive always had the opinion that its largely down to how the engine is run in. I never 'nanny' mine and they never use a drop and produce decent outputs on rolling roads as standard.

VAG probably just like to cover themselves by some degree I guess also.

Oops, yes. 2000.

I kept it below 3000RPM for the first 1K but was happy to keep it on boost for as long as I needed it.

Its worth keeping an eye on oil levels yes, but oil usage varies greatly.

I check the oil on my Mazda weekly, and it stayed rock steady at about 90% on the dipstick until 5500 miles, and now at 6500 miles its nearly at the bottom of the dipstick!!

I have never had to top mine up between yearly services and there is definitely no nannying going on!

Mine probably needs topped up with a litre over 7-10k miles.

I check it regularly as it does seem to drop in steps.

I don't top it up past 3/4 full. It seems to drink the first 1/4 quickly if it's up to the max.

Snap. I sometimes wonder what's actually lubricating it!

Same here.

I checked mine today and it hasn't used a drop. B)

I don't know if I'm right but this would suggest to me it is a particularly well built engine with very close tolerances.

It certainly can't be due to any lack of punch!

But maybe it is partly due to it not needing to be rev'd all that high to get good performance ?

I have a 1.8tsi. Have never had to top up in 36,000km.

well sealed it is.

I brought a 1.8TSI back in December. Coming up to 2000 miles now and the oil is still bang on the mid line.
