Ordered vRS

Featured Replies

Hi to all

Posted this originally on the newcomers site, but thought I might have more response here.

My SO & I have just ordered a fl vRS, for her retirement pressie. The car is a Race Blue hatchback, manual, petrol, xenons, maxidot, spare wheel & rear parking sensors. Didnt think that sat nav at £1300+ was worth it as we can both read maps, plus mobiles have google maps. The car is to replace a Clio 172 as ageing parent struggles in the Clio for comfort. A few questions that hopefully someone will point us in the right direction.

1) Bluetooth connection is important to us, however the standard fit unit has too many limitations, therefore intend to use a Fison unit., is it possible to fit the mic in an unobtrusive position, if so how difficult, a diy job or a professional installer?

2) Is it worth having the car professionally detailed rather than letting the dealer valet the car.

3) Are there people in or around Ipswich that can perform these tasks. I find personal recomendation is always better than thumbing through the yellow pages and taking pot luck.

Many Thanks in advance

This might help for the microphone issue with the Fiscon. I have mine in view just above the rear view mirror but may look at hiding it in the light at a later date (depends on if there's enough slack in the cable from when it was installed).

My car is only a week old and I'm not brave enough to start pulling it apart yet :S

Detailing is only worth it if you get the benefit from it.

I personally spend hours detailing my car, because I really like having a a shiny, clean car :).

If you're not that picky you probably wouldn't tell much difference between a detailed car and a dealer valet.

If you want someone to do it for you, get on Detailing world - there are loads of people on there who Detail for a living :).

Thanks for the replies, my thoughts are that if the car bodywork, interior, engine compartment, underneath is good to start with, then it will be easier to maintain that condition. Unfortunately my detailing skills are not of sufficient quality for me to produce an acceptable result, & I am loath to practice on a new car

That's fair enough.

Take note though that washing it yourself badly, or taking it to a mechanical car wash, or using those hand car wash places will undo all the good work of the detailer by stripping off the wax, inducing swirls and prematurely causing the paint to oxidise.

If you get it properly detailed, you will at least need to learn the basics of how to do a weekly wash, or get the detailer to do it for you on a regular basis :).

By detailing, I think you might mean having some protectivbe finish applied to the bodywork?

When I go my SEAT in Dec 2005, I had it Diamond treated and I have to say that I think it was worth it.#

Whenever I get the car cleaned (hand wash only!) it looks like it has been polished, so I would recommend some trteatment like this either before delivery or as soon after you get it as possible.

Looking at the process that Simon (Baker 21) performed on an estate car which had done 75 miles from new, and which had not been valeted by the dealer, this highlighted paint defects that required rectification. It is primarily this aspect of the detailing process that I will require, and ideally it would be undertaken at the dealer (if allowed). Whilst the Diamond treatment will protect the paint, it will also show any swirls etc in the paintwork. Yes I know contact Simon! however MK is approximately 110 miles from Ipswich and would be an expensive journey ! ( my SO enjoys shopping at MK) lol
