Bumper Cancer

Featured Replies

Around 4years ago I drilled 4 holes in the bumper to fit reversing sensors. They are located in the black trim but I had to drill the bumper itself behind the trim to make room for them.

Now after 4 years the paint is starting to turn grey around the drill holes and this is slowly travelling so it can be seen beyond the black trim (see photos)

Is there a reason for this?

Can it be stopped?

Only two of the holes have gone this way

Any thoughts welcome

I cant work out how to upload pictures yet.......

It's probably moisture getting under the paint.

Did you seal the holes after you drilled them with a little paint?

If not doing it now may stop it moving further but i'm not sure.

Thanks, it could well be. I will see if I can seal them to slow it down anyway.

yep deffo needs sealing next time properly , its too late now and it will get worse

water as ingressed between the base coat and lacquer and you'll find if you rubb it hard or jet wash it, it will cause the lacquer to flake off ,

which will then require your bumper repainting . prevention is better than the cure unfortunately .

is basically the same thing that happens to alloys etc ,its best to go round your car every few weeks with a touch up stick to prevent rust and pain defect's happening.
