Best Stage 1 remap for tfsi

Featured Replies

vRS No3,

has your car been on a dyno since it was remapped? If so what figures did you get?

Also has anyone had any clutch slipping issues with any stage 1 remaps? I understand that the clutches aren't that strong on the K03 TFSi?

havent had it on a dyno yet, but Kevin recons most 2.0 Tfsi vRS cars do around 245 to 250bhp. as for the clutch its good for a reliable 300bhp

vRS no3 whats your mod plan then to break 300hp

i think jabba do a large hybrid turbo, fuel pump, uprated clutch etc, i,ve still got to talk jabba about the plan and my goal of 350bhp+

wasnt aware of anyone doing a hybrid turbo for the TFSI yet.

the options i know of

k04 conversion-320-350hp

gt2871r-380-450(dependant on internals

thn bigger garrett turbos

i believe harry vRS just made 360 on awesome-gtis rollers with his k04 converted vRS

you wont get 250 on a stage 1, not unless its on a very optimistic dyno. ie REVO claim 255hp but i for one have never ever seen one come close to that. 240hp is a very realsistic target 245hp if your lucky. the main difference in maps is the torque really.

It's doesn't neccessary mean you have to change the DMF. I had a highly modded TDI once and had clutch slip for ages before changing it to a uprated Sachs. Just changed the clutch and sold the car with 200k on original DMF. If your DMF is faulty it will vibrate and be noisy if it's not it should be ok.

I experience a bit of slip on mine if i drive the car slow and easy for a while say due to ice etc and then when i go for a blast it slips at 5500-6000 rpm! But it stops after a mile or so, i reckon it gets a bit glazed when not driving hard, i'm not too concerened about it.

There's no noticeable nasties with my DMF, so it will probably be ok. I suppose ignoring the DMF completely, replacing OEM costs half as much as replacing with a Sachs. Happy to concede I may well be kicking myself later this year when my second clutch goes :)

Sy - didn't I read on the SEAT forums that JBS do a hybrid K03 turbo which gives you a pseudo K04?

vRS no3 - I think Dan's K04 is still for sale, could be a wise purchase to sit on for a while.

i,m going to have a service done the end of next month, i,ll see if they can dyno the car at the same time and post the results.

as for the turbo i,ll check what one or ones they use.

thanks

thanks for the heads up, Tim

How much does a stage 1 remap affect mpg and insurance?

Generally, you'll find the MPG is not affected or is slightly better, but, you also find your right foot being a bit more flexible than it used to be given the increased power available, so the MPG will probably drop :)

Insurance wise, depends entirely on the insurer. Some will not even cover remaps, some will cover for free (so I've heard). In my experience most insurers are ok with it nowadays and will charge you for a percentage increase in power e.g. up to 10%, 10 to 20% etc. It will probably cost you anywhere from 10 to 40% more than standard, but it pays to shop around, especially with a modified car.

Also, I seemed to get the worst quotes from so say modified car specialists - try a load of the main stream insurers to get a ball park and you may get a nice surprise. Privilege for example, were almost the same price as the company I eventually did go with but wanted a £750 excess.

Thanks for that Timmyboy, certainly worth a thought then. I guess the manufacturers dial back on the performance to economize on other components i.e. drive train, brakes etc although it wouldn't wash well for VAG group anyway to sell a Skoda that was faster than their sportiest Golf, especially having had to pay another nearly £10K for the privilege.

the VW GTI TFSI has the same output as the vRS and the leon Fr as does the VW TDI170 and the vRS etc etc. the perfomance differences will be weight related and suspension wise are in better damping.

The reason fuel economy gets better with a map, is that it makes it more efficient with the fueling. manufacturers have to look into emissions, economy and perfomance and balance it out.

if i drive normally my mpg is niegh on the exact same as before, however if i stick my foot down it is the exact opposite on a much larger scale. saying that i have the uprated HPFP though so that must make a little difference.

insurance wise its as timmy says. its done on a percentage power increase. Adrian flux and chris knot( both have sub forums on here) are very competitve when it comes to modified cars and premiums.

Yes its still here but the more its sat here the more tempted I am to have the mods done so it will fit, damned A4, why couldnt it be simple like my vRS was
