looking forward to your review.

are you going to correct the camber?

  • Author

Hi, my mechanic cliams the camber/tracking should not change,

will probly get it checked/sorted if needed anyway tho.

Any ideas of what camber to ask for, obviouly dont want too much for my daily commute but like -1 degree?

let me know your ideas.

I put Eibachs on mine.

The camber will not change (should be within OE spec). The front toe setting will change slightly. Ideally have a full 3D laser alignment.

you got any pics of yours too share?

ill get some pictures of mine up soon as well mate, shes getting dropped on friday with KW springs

surely if you lower the car you should correct the camber. I find it hard to believe why it would still be level (i.e. not change) and not increase inner tyre wear.

The degree of camber change depends on the vehicle's suspension design. For example, camber on the Impreza changes quite bit if the car is lowered, a Honda Civic Type-R virtually no change at all. In the case of the Fabia there is a very small change (with no more than 35mm lowering) and the camber should remain within manufacturer specification.

this makes me think that the optional extra -15mm springs uses the same dampers as a 'normal' one.

I would think it does. I might do a check on ETKA.

In general though, a shorter spring will have a higher spring rate and therefore need more damping. That's why lowered cars on standard dampers often have a slightly 'bouncy' ride - they are effectively underdamped. In practice I find that my Eibachs on standard dampers are OK on all but the bumpiest roads.

Finally here and fitted. Noticeably lower and reduced body roll (was pritty good handling to begin with). As stated above the shoxers cope fine on flat roads but is noticeable bouncy on rough roads.

Have just been pi*sed about with when a took it to get tracking checked, will take it back tomora to get it sorted.

Just need to save up for some nice 17" alloys now :)

Here both sets of pic's for comparison

Springs might settle in and lower more, but should't be by much.

Has the car stil retained its comfort levels?

whats etka? have you noticed any inner tyre wear?

thanks for showing us the difference, what springs you got and how much lower?

Car is still very comfortable, my old polo which had Eibachs on as well was more firm possibly due to age of shoxers. Btw its meant a be 30mm drop.

Plans to go; brakes, front strut brace, rear ARB, possibly uprated shoxs. but aint got much money atm.

Ordered some white LEDs for me rear licence plate, cause i like lil touchs like that, will post pic's pre/post for comparion.

ETKA is the VAG parts database.

After a good few thousand miles on the Eibachs (with Whiteline RARB) there is no abnormal tyre wear. The car was 3D laser aligned (on a Jim Bean system) and all suspension parameters remained within factory spec after the lowering.

Cornering and general road holding is now very good. Ride deteriorates more on bumpy roads than it did previously. Overall, its well work doing if you can DIY (I also got a set of nearly-new Eibachs very cheap - so total cost inc. Whiteline ARB was only about £170).

thanks.

I'm assuming that you didn't have to get the camber adjusted

No, the camber barely changes and remained well within factory spec.

Well for comparison, this is what mine looks like with the KW springs, they have been on since friday and are still settling in, I wont do a before and after because most people now how high the standard car is. These were just taken quickly today, just to give people the idea, I think they look lower than the eibachs as well. Ether way am chuffed

Although Red is not my colour, I have to admit that looks pretty smart and lowering it definitely makes a lot of difference :)

Both Eibach and KW are meant to be 30mm drop, supposedly due to the shock absorbers max you can go on standard ones.

that 30mm front and back right, how much you paid for kw and where from?

For reference mine bein the Eibachs, it was £150 (trade inc VAT), just for the springs. and yes 30mm front/back.

Mine were £114 including VAT and they were surpise surpise from halfords!
