Tailgate Sensor Packed up?

Featured Replies

Has anyone had problems with the Tailgate Sensor going on the blink in their Fabia VRS?

Sometimes the boot light will not come on at all, then other times burst into life randomly when the boot left open.

Does anyone know if they are expensive and difficult to replace?

Pretty sure the tailgate sensor is a microswitch built into the lock mechanism, so that'll be a new lock mechanism then :(

Or you could re-route the wiring and install a cheapy plunger style switch somewhere.

I'd check the lamp holder itself first - it's only held in by the carpet lining in the boot, so it could quite easily have been knocked by something in the boot. Then a squirt of WD40 inside the lock mechanism, to make sure it's not a bit of dirt interfering with the contacts...

Right double checked again and the sensor seems to be working on second look.

However the boot light is intermittent, sometimes it does not come on at all, other times the boot can be open 5 minutes when it suddenly flickers into life.

Checked bulb and its fine.

ideas?

Peel back the rubber boot between the top of the tailgate and the roof, and check the wiring?
