I'm waiting for that one to come, there were 2 passengers in his car so what's the bet of 3 whiplash claims for a 5mph shunt?

I'm also convinced his could be repaired for £100 or so as it only looked scratched to me... C'est la vie...

If it makes you feel any better, I went into the back of a newish Peugeot estate some time back at about 5mph. The other car looked fine until he looked at it the next day and found the boot didnt close properly and as it turns out the back of the car had a slight concertina crease all the way round it, hence I got an insurance claim. However the guy wasn't a ****** so no, "ooh my neck hurts when I hold it at this angle".

Looks like it's going to be an insurance job...

Just had a call from the guy I hit who tells me he's had 2 estimates both of around £600 for a new rear bumper so I may as well let the insurance deal with it... Wonder what courtesy car I'm going to get :'(

Repair quotes for insurance companies are always far far more than if you went in as a punter and say you want x,y and z doing. This is how they make most of their money. Its a fact!

As for courtesy cars I just had a Corsa 1.2 SXi or something. Brand new with 1600 miles on it. Glad I was driving that around in the snow/salt/grit/ice whilst my baby was safely inside the body shop for two weeks  However, it was un-economical to drive and was ever so slow - even at the 6.5k rev limit - where I kept it frequently ;)

To be fair, so far this guy has been fine so far, but will wait and see... After all, it was a FIAT I slid into the back of, and having had one in the past I know they can be bloody expensive to repair.

I was involved in was when someone drove into the back of me and I had solicitors calling me and writing to me asking if I wanted to claim for an injury and that I should go and have a medical to prove I was injured... It's a f**king joke really. Obviously I just ignored the requests as I was fine but it made me wonder how many people get payouts when there's nothing wrong with them...

A 1.2 Corsa??? Noooooooooooo

I'm driving to Scotland at the weekend.... That'll be the journey from hell in a tin box on wheels like that. Insurance company may find I'm not available to have the car fixed til I get back :-)

Had my shiny new Octy vRS less than 3 weeks when it got 'trollyed' in Tesco's car park - 30 inch gash down to the metal.

Two months later, Nov 6th, got up to se a large (40mm) circular dent in the centre of the roof & a burnt out firework, marginally smaller than an Apollo Saturn 5, lying on the drive.

18 Months later, some local scrote (or is it scroat), keyed it's boot and spoiler AND the boot of SWMBO's Fabia vRS LE AND 9 other cars on my road.

Drove my Cavalier for 14 years & only had one dent .............. *****

Looks like I've got off lightly so far then...

Think I'll move to somewhere with a gated car park when my lease expires in April.... She's normally parked on the road at the moment when I'm home as there's 36 flats in my complex with about 12 car park spaces off road...

So tell your insurance, state it was so slow and the person said they were fine and also state that if the claim total is less than a certain price you will pay them back the cost of the claim.

Not a bad call on the payback bit if its financially viable, but doesnt the whiplash depend on a doctors "opinion". I know of one or two nefarious individuals (I believe sweaing isnt allowed on the forums :) ) that have done a little research and then feigned those symptoms on their medical visit

Already told them it was a slow speed incident and that no one claimed to be injured at the scene. Didn't think about the cost of repairs being relayed to me for approval, but will get the case updated...

Those Stilo estates have funny bumpers, the bottom half folds down and as I hit the near side corner, I suppose it's distinctly possible the folding mechanism is damaged, I presume the hinge mechanism is near the side of the vehicle... I've been quoted £300 to repair mine, or £500 for a new front bumper so if his really is £600 to repair/replace then I'll make the claim but insist on a new bumper for mine rather than a repair...

Ok here we go

since picking up my brand new vrs le

1 I reversed in to a post .

2 Someone keyed it.

3 Someones dog decicded to try and get in the boot with the boot closed massive scratches on rear bumper.

4 Buckled alloy from pothole.

5 Stone chip on bonnet.

6 Someone opened their door onto it in supermarket.

All in 6 months and 6000 miles

Have you called it Christine? :)

To be fair it doesn't matter if they do a PI or not, you still get penalised as they can do so any time in the next 3 years. I was hit while stopped at the lights, the other car wasn't going quickly but my neck is still shafted, my boot seam had also been popped despite only very light cosmetic damage to the rear bumper. I now can't wear a lid for extended periods on a sports bike (combined effect of extra weight and angle required to tuck in), yet at the scene it was fine but became progressively worse over the next 2 days. From the other blokes perspective I may have seemed like I was taking the whatsit 2 days later with a £1400 bill for repairs and a bad neck but that's what insurance is for. Ironically I didn't claim for the PI in the end but in retrospect should have.

As for paying for it don't . You still have to declare the claim and still take the premium hit, paying for the claim yourself doesn't help now the insurance company is involved.

A friend has similar damage on her focus, and it cost her £150 to be repaired so should imagine will be not uch difference, they'll use bumper filler, and respray, 1 or 2 days work tops i i think

Me too, 6 week old elegance, missus hit a fold down parking post, dented door £400 quote repair, so insurance job, got a smart car in meantime, got to be the most mis named car in history feels every crack in the road, how I miss the comfort of my Octy.

It goes in for repair on 17th Feb (was offered an earlier date but work commitments got in the way) so am hoping I don't have to a long journey on the 18th :)

Driven Smart Cars before, and they are boneshakers aren't they... Mind you, my mates Brabus one was stupidly quick in a straight line (I wasn't brave enough to go round corners fast in it)

You should give it a try - they're great fun. I'm trading up from a smart to an Octavia VRs because I used to do town driving and it's now mostly motorway. On the days I take the smart down the M3 I regularly overtake much faster cars on the slip road onto the M25, but then again I do the same in my Polo too :)

My 84bhp Petrol smart and the soon to be 170bhp CR Octavia VRs have the same power to weight ratio! :giggle:

If the guy accepts a payment in `full and final settlement`, including for PI they can't claim again on it :)

I think the price is a bit high, which is why I suggested going via the insurance, doing their side of it and leaving your car unrepaired until the other side is sorted.

At that point if you've paid for the other side on the cheap via the insurance, you can get yours repaired yourself and otherwise you can get your insurance co to do it.

Bearing in mind if yours is going to cost less than £400 to repair then I would pay for it yourself as you only pay the excess on your cars part of the claim so if you can get it done for £200 pay it, save yourself £200 and its less risk at renewal time as the total claim is a lot less.

How does that work? His claim will be coming off my insurance, not his so if I'd been third party only I'd still have to pay an excess... So even if I don't get mine repaired, I'll still have to pay the excess for his repairs...

Or am I just being monumentally thick (it wouldn't be the first time)

If you are fully comp and the claim is only for the 3rd party then you dont have to pay excess. A friend of mine reversed into a car and only scuffed her bumper but dented side of the other car and she didn't have to pay anything.

Goes to check policy documentation....

Might be worth giving them a bell as it was news to me too!

Have you had much to do with insurance underwriters ? Irrespective of who pays the bill a claim is still a claim once it's declared, you get your premium loaded on the basis of having a claim, in this case a fault claim, protected NCD or not. Also where do you get the idea that the driver of the other car can accept full and final payment including PI ? He can't as each of the additional occupants has a legal right to claim against your insurance for PI, loss of earnings and reasonable expenses resulting from this including ongoing treatment, that's worth significantly more than the damage to the bumper. That right lasts for a minimum of 3 years, nothing he can sign absolves you or your insurance co of that liability.

For the OP basically it's now a claim and you're going to pay for it come renewal no matter what you do. You've paid for insurance, use it. Paying for the cost of the claim or your own repairs won't change that and will cost you more money.
