Seatbelt not reeling in (retracting)

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My 54 plate Fabia just failed its MOT on the seatbelts, which don't reel in (or only very very slowly)

I've tried spraying with silicone but no improvement.

Can I get the plastic panel off, where the seatbelt goes in? Is there anything I can check or clean in there?

Thanks,

if you take the B-pillar trim off, you will be able remove any fluff etc from the belt,

another thing to check is whether the belt is wet, pull it out and check for dampness, this swells the belt up, making it slow to retract

although in the end you may have to bite the bullet and buy new belts, don't go down the scrappy for them either

is it an estate? they suffer from the roof rails allowing wet into the seatbelts.

pull them all the way out and lock with a bulldog clip or similar then warm them up with a hairdryer to dry them out just before taking it back for mot. dont get close enough to singe them tho :o

Thanks for the quick replies folks!

It's a hatch, and I've not noticed any real damp, but will try and hairdryer them anyway.

Can I just lever that bit of trim off? Looks like I can get a screwdriver under the front door seal, but didn't want to launch into it and break things.

cheers,

the trim busts for fun usually tho. i'm sure you have to start at the top and work down with it too

It does crack easy theres some strong clips about half way up watch out for them thats where mine cracked. My seatbelts are slow to retract but haven't failed last 2 mots on them, they work when you yank them i thought thats all they needed to do
