Check out the service costs first though - some models can be horrendous :o

I know. My mate's got one and the first thing that happened was the piston ring cracking. It happens a lot apparently because of the stress of having a 'bolt-on' 5th cylinder instead of a proper machined full block.

Oh yeah, and then there's the timing belt which can be an engine-out job. The one I linked to looks like it's had all this done so for £4,000 you could have a lot of fun

Personally (and I know I'm biased) Id only look at the MX5 but I'd actually go for a later Mk1 rather than a mk2 or 2.5. To me they have a better design to them and are less girly. Either way the MX5 is pretty much bullet proff (Mines a '95 that I've had 11 years and short of replacement of consumables or adding of toys has had no real problems bar some work on the sills which is commo and needing a new roof which I did myself). I really don't see me ever getting rid either which I guess goes some way to showing just how good a car they are - I can't see me saying the same about many other cars.

If you have any queries on the MX5 let me know - after 11 years I can probably answer most things.

Consider the Mister 2, compare both cars carefully, test drive both & then do the right and proper thing and buy the MX-5.

There is a reason why the MX-5 is still with us and the Mister 2 has gone the way of the parrot.

If you count 2 spaces behind the seats and a place for a clean shirt under the bonnet then yes the MR2 does have a boot. As for fitting, the MK3 MX-5 as height adjustable seats and steering wheel, it is the only small covertable in this price bracket that I have found to offer enough head and leg room.

Err I currently have two pc towers in the back of my MR2? It has a boot...
