vRS service intervils

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am new to the site and I am sure this has been covered before but what are the service intervals for the Octavia vRS it a 03?

I only do about 4000 miles a year.

Thanks

Greg

it could be one of 2 things, depending on what the first owner had set at PDI.

From the factory they are set to variable servicing, where the car decides when it wants a service and it can be anything upto a max of approx 2 years or 18K between services.

Or

It could have been changed to every 10K or 12 months fixed servicing at PDI.

One way to check is to look at the service record to see when it has been serviced in the past.

What’s a PDI? :(

Wow 2 years that’s good, I am used to getting a service at 12k or 12 months on my other car....

Is it worth getting at serviced every 12 months if I only so 4k a year?

Thanks

Greg

PDI - Pre Delivery Inspection, the check that a new car gets before its first owner takes delivery of it. I recall that Skoda used to recommend variable servicing for cars that do over 10000 miles anually and fixed servicing for cars that do less than 10000 miles anually.

The cynic in me thinks that the idea of variable (up to 20000 miles/2 years) servicing is used more as a marketing tool to make the cars more attractive to fleet users. After seeing some VRSs with oil pressure problems due to blocked oil pick ups, I would be inclined to have at least the oil and filter changed every year, especially if a lot of your 4000 miles are short trips.

Thanks that sounds good to me.

My remapped 1.8T 4X4 has been on variable servicing from new and will be due its 4th service plus second cambelt change soon at around 32,000 miles and 8 years. The car is mainly used for long trips.

Thanks for that, wow that’s low mileage!

Am I correct to assume that there is service warning light when the car is due for a service?

If I get it serviced earlier would the garage correct for this? So would this have to be done by a Skoda dealer?

Cheers

No, it wouldn't have to be done by a Skoda dealer. I would have thought you could reset this yourself - you could on my previous VWs (can't quite remember how though - it's was bloody irritating when the little spanner symbol appeared midway between services).

The countdown to the next service appears in the trip odometer window when the ignition is first turned on, and when (from memory) within 1 month of the next service or 1000 miles (or maybe 2 and 2000). You will see 'service' and mileage left to that service each time you switch on. The message disappears about 20 seconds after starting. In cases such as mine where the time rather than mileage is what normally determines the when the service is due, the mileage starts counting down from 2000 to go some 2 months before the 2 years is up, and 'service' appears in the display when the service is due. For cars on variable service intervals, the service display has to be reset using diagnostic equipment, eg garage or VAG-COM. For fixed service intervals, you can do it yourself by following the procedure in the Owner's Manual. If you don't have a manual, you can download an official copy using the link below:
