EBAY Coilovers

Featured Replies

Just been looking at coilovers on ebay!

You can get a kit for under 200!

Just wondered if any of you guys have had or seen these kits, like JOM and Jamex and i forget the other cheap one

Just looking for something firm for my work car, something cheap.

I know you get what you pay for and ive had KW variant 3's on my M3 at nearly 4000 a shot but thats a bit excessive for a deisel skoda that i take to work anyone got any thoughts?

i have just bought the jamex kit but not yet fitted to my car, u do get what u pay for so they not gunna be the best in the world no doubt but im sure they do the job. if you wanna lower it more than 40mm then u need to get the kit for 225 it includes the adjustable drop links you reaquire. hope fully they will be fitted either tomorrow or in the week so i will put up a review after a week or so let u no what i think,

I dont think ill drop mine any lower than 30 to be honest as the bottom of the car and the edges of the front skirt touch the speed bumps and the kerbs

As you've said you do get what you pay for but if your just wanting a cheap kit to get it low then for £180 the JOM is a good option.

If your just wanting to lower 30mm though, I'd say stick with a springs and shocks kit.

A good search on here will give you an indication of how low it's wise to go both on price and ride height!!!

I agree, though, that some shorter springs would make more sense for the sort of drop you're looking at. As an added bonus, if the dampers are still in a decent state, you might well get away with not having to replace them...

Im not concerned about the ride height, id like to leave it standard, i just want the thing stiffend up as Octavias are very soft at the best of times!

In that case you might want to simply upgrade the shocks. This will firm up the handling a bit wihtout changing the height. Additionally, the single best mod you can make on these cars (and I think I'll be backed up here?) is to add a rear anti roll bar.

I have a 2003 vRS and felt it was a bit wallowy when bought it. By adding a whiteline RARB the handling is now massively improved with much less body roll but no effect on ride comfort. After spening hundreds on my old Golf's suspension, I now realise that stiffening up the ARBs give most of the effedt I was looking for.

Cheers,

iep

As mentioned maybe a set of Bilstein B6 dampers may be a better option for you.

Ive gone for a set of the JOM coilovers in the end!

They seem to have had good reviews and they are cheap enough for now

Does anyone know if you have to drop the rear axle or use compresors to take the rear springs out or do they just come out once you disconnect the shocks etc?

support the rear axle and remove the bolt from the shock mate then lower the jack and the springs will just pope out with a slight lean on the beam lol.

the rears are p1ss mate, just gettin the rear shock out of the top mount is the trouble.

do a search for weitec fitting or something similar and youll prob get some fitting tips Ive posted along with Bowders1 and Bodge along with a few others who have them.

If I am reading this right, Jamex do not sell a suspension kit suitable for the vRS, so you may end up having to modify the front mounts for the droplinks as on the vRS they are different to the standard octy.

Yeah ta , thought that was the case, worked on many many BMW's over the years just wasnt sure if the spring on the standard car was short enough to get of the spring seat without undoing the whole rear beam, but now i know lol
