ntl e mail viruses

Featured Replies

I'm being plagued with e mails containing attachments that contain viruses. Obviously I've not opened any of the attachments as AVG is identifying them. They all have headers with titles such as 'Mail returned'; 'Post Office Returned'; ''Undelivered Mail'. Every time one appears I add it to my blocked senders list but they keep on coming with slight variations in their addresses.

They all apparently come from e mail addresses ending in ntlworld.com (probably spoofed). I'm on ntl broadband; is anyone else on ntl getting this garbage or is it 'available' from other ISP's?!

I have just downloaded 15 e-mails via NTL. 11 were junk/spam and of those 3 contained viruses which NIS 2005 alerted me to and fixed. That's about par for my daily mail.

Anything equally good that doesn't cost $37 x 2? (I have a PC and laptop to maintain apart from SWMBO).

I'm on ntl but it's my old tiscali e-mail account that is getting these e-mails (only maintain it for my website!).

Yeah I get heaps of spam - had the account for a long time and the address has obviously been sold a few times - yep I get a whole load of virus alerts too - seems to be the norm these days!

Just looked at the stats for the email server at work, its quiet suprising how many viruses we have recieved in the last 2 weeks.

I to have a problem with spam & am on ntl world broadband. I have had a few of those returned mail ones. I use incredimail , I love it as all mail that i haven't sent/ autherised goes into a seperate file ( Junk & unaproved folder ), just checked & had 55 in there today, beauty is you can delete the lot without actually touching/ opening the mail. I also like all the fancy effects :), i do have to check it daily, but it is easy to check & to add name to the approved section.

I've got a gripe about the ntl service. My master ntl email address is the one which I receive all my spam on. I have never used that email address to register on the forums, I only ever use my token frenchboy email addy for that, the idea being that all proper email will go to the xavier account, and all web / forum / general spam will end up in the token account.

To this day, I've NEVER had any spam on the Token account, but I receive daily about 10 emails providing sex-aiding medication on my xavier account  Now the only way I can think of them getting this email address is due to the url formatting ntl provide your web space. From your web space url, they can determine what the email address is for the master account holder, and so I guess it's from there that all my spam is coming.

Maybe I could ring ntl asking if it's possible to change the url of my webspace so bots don't pick it up and then auto-spam my email account, but I already know what the answer will be

Rant over :)

I have asked for some information on the above problems within ntl. I can't promise anything :) but we'll see.

Alternatively, use their connection but don't use their email? Thus you won't lose it if you decide to change ISP.

Yahoo, Gmail etc...

You're lucky to get spam: I've not been able to send emails through NTL for 3 days now! And it looks like it's a national problem?

I dont use ntl's smtp server to send email, I use my own so this problem doesnt affect me.

I have been asked to point you in the direction of the following information. :)

 Thanks very much for that. If it works, that is very good news.

Good to hear that NTL are going to do something useful for a change. IMHO they should have been blocking viruses ages ago.

To be honest, I don't think I want NTL scanning and parsing my e-mail. I have good enough anti-virus protection without nanny interfering.
