Trade in vehicle

Featured Replies

The dealer I am planning on buying my new Octy from has suggested that maybe I could let him have our trade in vehicle before our new Octy arrives, this will reduce further depreciation on our trade in vehicle.

Have others done this? Good or bad idea?

Any dealer worth his salt would freeze the trade in value of the car from time of ordering.

But yeah, let him have it, subject to lending you a replacement car!

Yep, I'm doing this. Ordered in Nov, and as I said I wanted to get mine with the new number plate in March, they said they'd need my car in about a month early to give them time to sell it on before it takes another drop in depreciation. Otherwise, they'd have lowered the trade in value. Was a good trade in value, so I agreed - they're lending me a car to tie me over.

Seemed like a good idea to me rather than accept a lower trade in value.

Has long as he will lend you a car there is no problem ;)

Yeah, as long as they're giving you a car to tide you over (and covering any difference in insurance for that month...)

I would have a concern in letting them have my P/X before I had my hands on the new car.

Worse case scenario but what if the garage went bust while they had your car and had sold it on?

The money they had from it is now gone and you are just a creditor. You have no legal entitlement to the loan car you would be driving and the administrator would demand it back.

My deeler froze my part ex price over the 3months it took for my car to turn up, they did say i had the option to put my part ex in early but didnt push it. its a double edged sword really, wouldnt want to "give" my car away without getting my mitts on the new one... but equally the law of sod says something will go wrong with yours while your waiting for the new one
