Yeti S, how many speakers there should be?

Featured Replies

Hi, does anybody know how many working speakers there should be in Yeti S model? It came fitted with Swing CD player, set of 2 x speakers in the front door (2 x normal + 2 x tweeters) and it looks like there is anyther set in the back door (2 x normal + 2 x tweeters). The manual for the Swing CD says "The loudspeakers in the vehicle are matched to a power output of the radio of 4x20W", I would interpret that would mean both sets at the front and back should be connected.

However, the speakers in the back door are not working. The dealer says that the 4 speakers referred in the Skoda brochure, S model specs as 4, 2 normal + 2 tweeters in the front door, therefore no speakers in the back door.

Spoke to Skoda customer services and they could not tell me anything more that is not printed in the booklet, could not put me through to anybody else in Skoda that would know and referred me back to the dealer...

Err I think you hit the crap brochure issue. Might be worth checking if it's just a case of the speakers being there but just not connected if you are lucky.

Sorry to hear this nothing worst than being disappointed because the car delivered doesn't match the expectations...;-(

Have a look and see if there are any speakers there. Is the fader on the stereo set to 100% front?

I suspect the E and S models only have front speakers though, and indeed the spec should be 2x20W, as the tweeters are piggybacked from the woofers, not amplified separately.

arghhhh, shone light through the speaker covers in the back door....empty holes... :-(

Just looked at the brochure and under the list of features on the SE (over and above S) is listed "Additional 4 loudspeakers rear". It is a little ambiguous but I suppose that we should read this as saying that speakers are not standard in the rear.

I came close to buying a 1.2E and can confirm the rear doors have the speaker mounting/grilles, but no speakers. We eventually bought an SE and the additional rear speakers mentioned in the brochure equate to 2 full range units in the lower door and 2 tweeters in the upper door.

This setup looks and sounds similar to that in my old 2008 Octavia Ambiente, despite the Bolero in the Yeti.

I'm amazed that manufacturers are still only putting a full set of speakers in cars at this sort of price level.

It's ridiculous penny pinching that should have died out years ago.

If I remember rightly VW still don't provide rear speakers in a base model Touran, despite a list price approaching £20K.

I remember test driving one a couple of years ago and the kids shouting up from the back - TURN IT UP! We finished up with a Mazda 5, complete with front and rear speakers.

I would rather see HID lights or other safety features at the expense of a radio and speakers at any price break. A radio and speakers are nether here nor there, many people change the standard fit for something of there own choosing at some time or other in any case.

My mate got a basic Touran - think the brochure listed "6 speakers" - omitted to tell you they were all in the front !!

The extra speakers would probably cost them about a tenner to fit in the factory , and *should* be standard all round.

As for people replacing them - I'd guess it's only a couple of percent of owners that do this. The majority will stick with the factory fit.

When cars are downspecced like this I wonder whether the wiring is there but just not the speakers.

Similar to the light in the bottom of the mirrors on the Elegance. If you look on my SE there is a small panel that must be where a clear lens fits. So is the wiring there just no lamp and clear plastic lens?

Here in Greece only the Elegance-Experience have rear speakers. All others are without, unless you pay an extra 110 euros.

Just had the same realisation re my Yeti S - seems a bit mean not to have fitted even bog-standard speakers in the back, e4specially when the covers are already in place. I toyed with geting the SE, but thought the S would do me fine, assuming (wrongly) that the S's '4 speakers' would include 2 in the back.

Can I pay to get an upgrade via the Skoda dealer? I don't want to take a 1-month old car to Halfords or somewhere like that. Grrr.

my Yeti is an ambition (think is SE in uk) and has 8 speakers.

thats in Cyprus

Hi, just read this post - My Yeti hasn't arrived yet, but again I wrongly assumed that the 4 speakers would be front and rear as any normal expectations would be.

What surprises me is that the S comes with air conditioning, electric mirrors and rear electric windows, but why not 2 extra speakers in the back?

From what I can see from Halfords and Ebay, they are not that expensive for Sony (or similar brand) speakers, it must be peanuts for Skoda to get some OEM ones!

What's more, now I might have to choose "chav" spec speakers from Ebay or Halfords with horrendous silver grilles or plastic trims!

This brings me to my next questions:

Are the rear doors pre-wire, ie are the pre-existing wire there, meaning all I can do is to connect them? Do I have to remove the door cards to install the speakers. I do not want to let Halfords etc touch my car and ideally I would prefer to buy some speakers that I like and install them myself. Does the grill just pop out and I can just connect and screw the speakers in. Being rather unambitious here, I am just going to deal with the bottom speakers and not the tweeters.

Would be grateful for any insight! Thanks

If there are 4 speakers, they are all in the front doors.

Adding another 4, thy go in the back doors.

Hi, thanks, do you know if there are wiring for speakers ready in the rear door?

Sorry. I do not know. My Ambition spec only had the four speakers, so I ordered the extra four from the factory.

Thanks, in that case are you installing them yourself? By the way, do you have the dimension of the speakers? I was thinking given the choice and amount of work, I might as well get some good speakers.

I will probably decide on what to do when the Yeti arrives next week, as I don't think I can really stand only having front speakers.

Sorry if I was not specific enopugh in my amswer. The original spec did not include the four rear speakers, so I ordered the extra four installed in the factory when the car was built.

I assume the wiring is not there if you do not order from tha factory, as the dealer would not install them after the car was delivered - but I do not know for sure.

Ah, thanks. Unfortunately, we don't have this options here, well for the S and the E. I have just checked the brouchure, I think only SE gets 4 extra speakers in the back.

Sometimes the wiring is there. On my A2 I did not order the winter pack (heated mirrors and heated washer jets) but quickly found on the A2OC forum that all A2's have the wires already dangling inside the mirrors. I took out the non heated glass and replaced them with two heated ones for Something like £30 if memory serves and hey presto the mirrors came on when I press the rear window demister. No setting up, nothing. The "on" signal went to these wires when you switched on the demister but just had nothing connected to them. I hope you find the same in your Yeti for the speakers!

Thanks, I will definitely have a look when I get the Yeti, but I might be driving it rather than finding out about speakers, but will definitely investigate in due course.

From researching online it seems Golf S has the same set up - no rear speakers and no wire set up, but speakers are included??? Strange kind of cost savings there!
