Hubs & Brakes

Featured Replies

I am looking to upgrade the brakes on my Fabia Tdi to the vRS spec. Anyone know if the hubs used on the Fabia vRS with the caliper carriers are the same as on the Octavia or any other VAG car?

If it's just a TDI, I don't think this is possible as Jason and Andy looked into it I think, although I believe the TDI and Fabia vRS brakes are the same anyway.... :( Let me know if you find out any different though :D

Chris

Yes, unfortunately.

The front brakes on any furby apart from the non-vRS is FS III which is a different mounting. I don't know what's involved in getting it to vRS mounting spec. There are a couple of threads on the subject. Do a search for 312 ;)

Think Alex is looking into changing his hubs so vRS brakes will fit.

I think a complete hub swap is whats needed - on to the TDI driveshafts.

Big work though, but with your engineering background I don't see it as being a problem, and if you do it, For christ's sake let me know! ;)

But aren't the vRS brakes the same as the TDI brakes (apart from the caliper colour ;))? Could be wrong.........

vRS uses 288mm discs. Not sure about the calipers. Don't think they are as you can't get any DS pads for them.

I may have the solution to performance pads for the VRS :D

So have I. Upgrade to 312mm :D worked for me.

Without changing the disks :D

Pretty sure the discs that went on mine a couple of months back were 288mm (although I've deleted my order confirmation e-mail  ) Where's that ruler? :D

Another way is just to swap the calipers for the ones fitted to the 288mm setup on the Octavia, Golf.

TDi (FSIII) and Fabia vRS brakes are different. If they were the same there wouldnt be a problem.

To fit vRS front brakes to a TDi all you need is the front uprights (bearing housing). But depending on how the front bearing comes out of the housing you may need to replace it aswell, but as the bearing is a sealed unit containing the ABS ring etc its a bit more expensive than normal.

:( so brake/calipers/discs could be only half the cost then... Something to work to for me then... And as sad as it sounds wait for that first written off vRS Fabia so I can nick the hubs, oh and the engine ;)

Ah yes I knew that, but as a non-mechanic, my idea of brakes is discs, pads and calipers. I have no clue about the mountings ;) Am I right in thinking the discs are the same size and they both have single pot calipers?

Chris

vRS discs are 288s, and I believe we run on mere 256s Chris. ;)

So completely different then  Oh well :D

Chris

What difference does an inch make anyway!? :naughty:

Why change the habit of a life time.

After all disks and dicks are nearly spelt the same :D

 Yeah, I've main similar "typos" and had to try explaining it to our Japanese/Chinese customers  Bigger and bugger are also very easily mistyped and lead to much confusion ;):D
