Leaky Felicia sunroof

Featured Replies

There's a slight leak from the front corner of the sunroof. The Haynes manual says dont touch it. The local Skoda dealer quoted £160 to fix it.

Does anyone know a simple solution?

is it because the seal has hardened and allowing water through?

Yep give it a clean up carefully so as not to split it, then spray silicone oil onto the seal. This worked for me. Another suggestion I have seen on here is to use some wire wrapped inside the lip of the seal which lifts it up bringing it into closer contact with the glass.

Couldn't get mine to stop leaking. It was beyond repair and I couldn't find a seal anywhere. Solution.... I bought a tube of black mastic sealer!!!! Hasn't leaked since. Ha ha ha. :D

I'm not to bothered about a sunroof. I think they are a bit pointless. Just open the windows a bit more. On the motorway mine used to make the air in the car pulsate. Really made you feel weird. :p

Take the glass out, remove the 2 metal tongues, flatten them with a vice or hammer by 2mm, refit. This will pull the glass down tighter to the rubber seal.

that is a fantastic idea bobob

where's the old thanks button gone?? :wonder:

its hardly ever the seal between the glass and the roof, we always remove the frome (about 1400000 phillips screws!!!) and clean up the roof itself and remove the foam tape that skoda use origionally, the tape shrinks over time and allows the corners to leak. remove tape, clean up and fill gapall they way round the frame with sealant (flexible bathroom type) so that it squeezes out when you refit it and tighten, wipe round with solvent to remove any excess and allow to cure, i've done lots and lots (lucky for me someoine else at work does them now lol) you will need a good quality phillips screwdriver and sometimes the screws are pretty tight

hi,just wondering if there are any drain holes in the felicia 1.6 glxi sunroof.havent been able to find any so maybe thats my answer.cheers..........

In the Favorit ones there weren't, they were fitted as if they were aftermarket ones. As the Felicia is based on the Favorit and some of the sunroofs look similar I suspect the same is true.

I seem to remember when the dash was out of my car seeing some tubing running along one of the windscreen pillars behind the trim... so I believe the felly does have drains... think they got blocked quite a lot though :dull:

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing because i'm sick of mine leaking, i think its the outer part between body and frame thats leaking so gonna get some sealer soon and get it done

Worked with mine, need to take it out to do it properly tho'

No point in doing whilst in situ.

Might be an issue with getting it out on mine though, the screws are quite tight and a couple are rusty, don't want to risk taking it out if i cant get it back together again

Few of mine broke off whist removing, I drilled new holes and used self tappers, fine now.

Old seal was just thin foam with glue on both sides. It had shrink and was leaking in several places, useless!

Had the same on ye olde P-reg Clio with tilt and slide sunroof (very common problem on those, and they had no gutter) Did the same thing (removed roof, etc) although found drain and gutter sealant in B&Q - never quite goes off. Took rook out, cleaned hole in car, cleaned it again, liberal dose all the way round the roof whilst off, replaced couple of screws, put it all back together, tightened all the screws, wiped off the excess sealant (tidied it up a bit too) and done. Total time was no more than an hour, two people to take the roof out and put back in. Job done, didn't leak again. Seriously, as long as you know which way to told a spanner and how to apply sealant, you can do it yourself................then charge people £100 for doinging it! :-)

Thinking of adding a sunroof to the Truckman on Fun1. Can get them for about 20 quid on Ebay. ;)

thanks for the replies.in the end i bought some caravan sealer from a camping shop.its called "captain tollys creaping crack cure".i kid you not.its very watery so will find it own level and dries transparent.i poured it down around the rubber seal a few times.i then cleaned the inside of the glass and rubbed vasaline around the seal.no problems since.

Vaseline is petroleum based and likely to perish rubber. Best stuff to use on rubber is silicone grease.

That would be the rear window washer pipe, I should think. I can assure you there's no drains on my sunroof ;)

Mine doesn't leak to the point of having damp spots or water stains anywhere, but collects enough water to give me a surprise wet head at the first right-hand corner I take. Turns out the seal wouldn't seat properly at the front corners and the water's getting in between the bottom of the seal and the frame. To this end I've pulled the seal out and given it a good wash in the sink (rubber seals do love a bit of Fairy Liquid), cleaned all the crap out of the frame and refitted it so it's properly seated all round. Now I'm just waiting for some more rain to see if I actually do need to replace the bead of mastic that was under there originally...
