cracked windscreen

Featured Replies

3 months and nearly 7000 miles, of reasonably troublefree yeti ownership, apart from the dash creaks that were sorted by davidianskoda, whilst travelling back to morecambe from northwales on sunday, amk2 octavia pulled out in front of me onto the a55, and threw a stone and ht the window, resulting in a crack at the bottom of thescreen, which has subsequently grown, the problem is that autoglass cannot obtain a replacement at the moment, they said that it may need to be imported, i am a bit dissapointed in skoda uk, if after 3months damage prone spares are not readily available, it makes me .wonder what situation would be if body panels etc would beneeded, anyway it has notdeterred me from the best car that iv owned sofar andasthe milage piles on the overall combined economy is around 47 -49 mpg, if only i could master how to drive it without stalling it.hopefully mr skodawill send me apiece of glass soon

Interesting, ours has a crack at the top, where the overprinting is by the mirror - again, developed from a stone chip. We haven't got round to getting it sorted yet.

Have you actually checked directly with your Skoda dealer whether they can get hold of a new windscreen? I have heard that some of the fitting companies use cheap 3rd party glass - for example Jaguar heated screens where the heating wires are much more obvious than on the genuine Jaguar items. Maybe Autoglass are waiting for pattern parts to become available rather than source a proper Skoda item.

Sorry to hear about your windscreens.

Have noticed that the Yeti's screen appears very prone to stone impact; not helped by the broken state of our roads. :(

Hi had 2 stones hit my windscreen :swear: first one when it was 2 days old only very small mark on drivers side second one at 2 weeks old on passengers side was a large chip and very small crack which auto glass repaired. But as the plumber said we have roads that are more like gravel drives than tarmac (hope they get a good stock of screens in soon)

When autoglass replaced the screen in mk mk1 octy, I also needed to wait. The reason is because they fit genuine skoda glass, which it typically ordered direct from the oem glass manufacturer (not skoda). RAC autowindscreens on the other hand use cheap aftermarket glass, which on the mondeo I had showed defects in the field of view. I think autoglass only stock the mainstream glass (mondeo, focus, vectra etc.), they order in not so common glass as required after all their is no point having dozens of yeti screens in stock for years and skoda change the spec.

Add me to the list. :'(

Got overtaken by the mad white van man in the slush/snow.

Grit/salt thrown up as he moved back in front - and chipped the wndscreen - hopefully it can be repaired - else I'll join the queue for a replacement.

Hi shyfly

Sorry to hear abt wait for a screen .

Your other point about stalling have experienced similar probs with my 110D was at dealer today having car checked out for that problem. They tell me that there is a flash update due out to solve an idling problem .They are hopeful that this may solve the stalling problem.

Me too!

I jumped in my Yeti last Thursday morning to be met by a 4" crack travelling horizontally approximately half way up the drivers side A pillar. There is no obvious source of impact. I phoned Skoda insurance, to be passed to another phone number as the underwriter has changed. I spent 15 mins on the phone and informed that I would be contacted by my local Autoglass centre within 2 hours. This was 09:00 hrs. I phoned Autoglass myself at 14:30 hrs as I had heard nowt. They had no record of my vehicle and spent another 15 mins giving them the same details as previous. The next available 'slot' for fitting was in 13 days time, as they are 'very busy' and Yetis are 'rare', and my windscreen is laminated and presents no danger to myself. I now have to drive for the best part of 2 weeks with an increasingly growing crack right in my line of sight. I am less than impressed, even more so that there is no evidence of impact, therefore it coukd be a stress crack and therefore it could happen again.

Not only that but I think that you may be also committing an offence while your driving it if the crack is where you say it is..

What are my options, take it back to the dealer?

What are my options, take it back to the dealer?

I guess so that must be an option at least.

Remember years ago my first Octavia's windscreen cracked but on the 'inside' laminates only. Local dealer (not supplying dealer) ordered a new screen through the Skoda stores system and called out Autoglass to fit it.

The cause on removing the screen turned out the be a metal beer bottle top (possible Czech) resting between the front of the dash and windscreen. How it got there was a mystery; not mine honest, therefore a  at the factory maybe or the previous owner (ex Skoda lease car) :wonder: Anyway cost still covered by the warranty. :)

TP
