1.4 8v Engine cover - ok to leave it off?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if it would be ok to leave the engine cover off? It has a crack in it anyway and the only functions I can see are it makes the engine bay look prettier and has a recess to clip the 710 cap onto. The engine is based on the 136 in the Favorit which only has the oil cap held in place with a seal, so the oil cap should not pop off.

Thanks in advance :)

What's an engine cover?! :wonder: :giggle::giggle:

yes its fine to leave off its only there to look pretty, you should have a spare oil cap on the underside of the cover too

Appears to just sit on pull-studs, so a good firm yank applied at the back should lift it at that point.

I'm guessing the air filter is not in the cover, like some with Furby engines (1.2 & 1.4 16v).

Yeah, just yank from the front (by the rad fans) and pull firmly upwards. Four feet/stud things, one in each corner.

Where is the air filter on the 1.4 MPi then?

box bhind batery next to the engine, i know cus i canged bulb on 1 2day pain cus it pushes bat 4ward!

I think that should be NEXT TO engine, with the oil filler cap and various other bits sat on it in this picture (which also shows where the nuts you need to remove are if anyone's struggling to get the cover off their MPi):

If you look at ap0gee photo, the filter is in the black box that is between the battery and the ECU and the pic has the oil cap rested on it.

Are we triangulating or something?

To both of you - cheers.

It's not recommended to take the engine cover of the 1.4 16v, as the air filter sits in the engine cover

yh i know dat just wana no for future ref, changed my prev post ment to say st back next to engine bhind batery but got very muddled up!!

Oops, I just looked at the pretty picture, not reading the text above it, sorry!
