If he had an accident would he not be in trouble as they would be deemed as not safe for the road as they would not pass an mot like that and have a feeling it might cause allsorts of trouble ???

or are they legal whats the answer??

Not safe? Says who?

Mate, it's a very grey area!

There are arguments for (dubbers, hot rodders and drifters) and against (know-it-all 5-0 and busy-bodies, mostly).

Most arguments against are on the grounds on Construction and Use (which is the "tyre tread inside the arch"), and safety (saying they'll come off). Now I've seen pictures of stretched tyres that have come off while the car was standing still, but then again I've seen drifters do silly things with massive stretches.

Some busy-body plod say things about "the protruding wheels pose a danger to pedestrians", but when confronted with "well what about Atoms, Caterams et al?" they don't really have a reply...

I thought it was the entire wheel has to be in the confines of the arch?

I am sure that a copper would not like that one bit and Id say its damn stupid to drive that on the roads, would make a mess of what ever it came in contact with.

yea but dont they have the arch over them? daft I know as its only plastic covering the wheel. but its still there. On track fine but on the public roads I think its daft as I would say all tyres say on them not to fit to rims so much as 1/2" larger, so you are going against the manufacturers recommendations. which is also weakening the tyre there for making the risks and chances of failure a lot higher.

is that not a good enough reason?

It should be cleared up tho. still its not Illegal if you dont get caught lol
