1.4TSI YETI NOT coming to the UK

Featured Replies

My dealer has spoken to some top skoda people in planning and development. There are no plans to release the 1.4TSI engine in this country. Apparently the economics of it don't stack up. The Octavia and Superb have more sales(private, taxis, chauffeur-driven cars) and therefore more engine choices. The engine may be available as left hand drive in Europe but not here.

There is a new engine to be launched in the octavia range, here in ireland, and it will be a turbocharged four cylinder 1.2TSI 105bhp, direct petrol injection, which will have a combined fuel consumption of 134g / km, which will put it in band B, with an annual road tax of €156. details can be found on www.skoda.ie in the news section.

That unit is already fitted to the Yeti.

Shame theres no 1.4 TSI on its way :(

In a way i think this is a pity. At one level I feel the 1.4 (excellent in its own right) doesn't offer something sufficiently different to the equally excelllent 1.2.

However I believe there is a need to offer more (perhaps 2wd) choice to plug the gap between the relatively cheap less powerful variants and the more powerful ones. Currently the 1.4tsi is the obvious choice to give some more power at a reasonable price.

To use the OTR retail price for simplicity, I noticed that although there are several Yeti variants available below or at £16k, there are none between £16 and £17k. There's some choice of spec options between £17 and 18k (but restricted to one diesel and 1 petrol) and again nothing between £18 and £19k. Above this price the choice starts again.

The main reason for this is the necessity of combining the more powerful variants with both higher spec and 4x4 which requires a significant hike in price.

I suspect a lot of potential buyers looking for an alternative to a conventional family hatch are lost by this choice price combination.

I think its a great shame that the UK will not benefit from the 122PS 1.4TSi Yeti, it would bridge the choice gap nicely.

Come on Skoda, time for a rethink.

NO 1.4TSI !

(spoken by someone who has a 1.2TSI coming in March!)

The 1.4 Fabia vRS is due soon, and running 170 BHP, so I have been told ........

If the article in the Daily Telegraph this weekend is correct you would think that manufacturers would be adding efficient small(ish) petrol engines line the 1.4TSI even in the UK. See Daily T - is diesel dead?

Part of the article complains of the added complexity of turbochargers and EGR on diesels. They seem to ignore that the same technology is used to get the small petrol engines to both perform and get low specific consumption figures - but are some distance behind the diesels in both economy and performance.

The refining of light sweet crude, like Brent in the North Sea and West Texas do favour petrol production. However, there ain't much of that keft, and the heavy sour crudes would tend to be more suited to diesel production. One of the large US refiners, Valero, has made a very good business out of handlling heavy sour crudes from Venezuela and elsewhere - and are getting excess diesel fractions.

Diesel ain't dead. It still producess less CO2 per hp/hr than petrol.

Well, seems like we're all hearing different rumours!!!!

I have spoken to a local skoda dealer in Nottingham and he has said the new vrs is definitely due! It will have a 1.4TSI engine capable of 180bph and will be based on the latest sport model ,but not quite as sporty as the rally 2000!

I have also emailed car magazine and they have said the new vrs WILL be shown at the Geneva Motor Show early next month! Until the 'embargo' has been lifted, whatever that means, they aren't able to publish any details! Still, it looks very promising to hear we will all finally be put out of our misery!!

Perhaps it will be the new 215 CR that will be announced  at the motor show complete with real full time spare and bigger off road capable tyres as options. :giggle:

Are you talking about a Fabia or Yeti?

Definitely the Skoda Fabia vRS. Apparently it will be available to buy around July/August time.

The introduction of the new Fabia vRS will be based on the newly coming facelift!

I am hoping the lights and the front bumper will be similar to the facelifted octavia because it will be much more aggressive looking!

I am surprised about the comments regarding the 1.4 TSI engine not going to be available in this country, after all, it IS going to be available for the VW Golf and Ibiza Cupra...

Roll on March!!

reference to the 1.4 TSi not coing to the UK was specific to the yeti. The 1.4 TSi is already on sale in the UK in several cars including the Octavia and Superb.

The 1.4 TSI is coming to Switzerland in June in 2 wd only. At the moment there are no 2 wd models available at all (we don't have the 1.2TSI ), Strange why they think the 1.2 TSI is OK in the UK, but not here. Maybe all these hills!.

Fabia VRS is definitely a 1.4 TSI 170bhp with DSG gearboxn - saw it at the Skoda factory last week !!!!!!!!

oops, sorry :giggle:

So no Yeti 225 CR GT Elegance ( power get bigger every time I post) then with air suspension that razes up and down at a whim to overcome obstacles with an additional eLSD at the front huge pod stuffed with auxiliary lamps and stealth laser reflecting paint paint job. Oh well it will just have to be the 170 then. :giggle:

If your going for stealth then FLIR (Forward looking Infrared for non fly-boy types :D ) would be more in keeping than 'search lights'

Some Mercedes have Passive Infra Red Cameras I understand.

Would stick with FLIR, seen it in action; pretty impressive looking 'through' the structure of the aircraft parked in front of you B) . My link

Thank you for the link. This would be useful for me. My link I have had a terrible time over the years with Badger baiter's and illegal hunting. I have had static cameras with infra red night vision but nowhere near this good. Mine use an infra red light source to illuminate the field but unfortunately baiting is so organised here, they just deactivated and damaged my system. According to The League Against Cruel Sports I live in one of the worst areas for that sort of thing. Wales gets about 10 times more calls more than the rest of GB put together.
