Door Mirror Replacement

Featured Replies

Yesterday evening my door mirror was struck by an oncoming car as I was going steadily on fogs and headlights in thick fog, with snow and mud spilling onto the narrow unclassified road and it was over in an instant. Could not even say the colour of the other vehicle.

Mirror casing broken as well as glass. But power folding and adjustment still working. Main dealer refuses to quote (ominous) until I contact my insurance company. Will an entirely new mirror assembly be needed (painted of course) or at best a new casing and glass?

Got a protected no claims discount with an excess of possibly £250 ,luckily, but no doubt insurance will still not like a claim.

Any ideas of costs? £500 anyone to start with?

Nothing like that. They are not that expensive. Well under £200, so not worth claiming on your insurance unless the door itself is damaged. On the older octys you can certainly buy the cover and glass seperately, so you may only need the cover+painting+glass. Check on Ebay for glass - cheap is the same shape as the pre-FL.

New indicator about £25, new casing same, budget on less than £50 to get it painted up, then mirror glass. Dealer wants you to go via insurance as they can charge a fortune for a simple repair - don't bother.

Try a search of the scrappys, you could get lucky and find the right colour and possibly a whole assembly for around £30

Thanks, will try the local garage first for a quote. I was suspicious about the main dealers reaction.

Local garage wanted £252 for parts alone and they could not do a decent paint job. The '09 FL mirrors are not available cheap in the internet. I checked.

So on to insurance company. Got a £50 excess and protected bonus so not too painful in the short term. Have to use the local approved repairer and will have a loan car. Broken drivers mirror is classified as an immobilised vehicle and very urgent. We'll see.

£500 all in then?

Insurance company have approved the repair. But I have been deprived of my Octavia for over a week now and am stuck in this black slug of a Corsa with a please overtake sign illuminated.:giggle:

Garage struggled to obtain a new mirror(allegedly).

Let's hope it is the right kind with full powered everything!B)

Just had mine done as it was knocked off by a dozy old dear :( skoda main dealer wanted £221 painted if I fit it myself - so bought new unit off ebay £80 and got it painted £20 fitted myself - pretty simple

Job done :)

Well I did search around, but no luck for a 2009 version. As I've only got a £50 excess, and a protected NCB, thought I'd then let the insurance company deal with it. But yes, if you have older versions there are definitely cheaper mirrors available.

I'm embarrassed to admit my insurance company have paid out £465 for a new door mirror and side window ( window was scratched and chipped slightly) at an approved repairer. Eight days courtesy car as well.

Main Skoda dealer would not quote me directly and a local garage would not take on the job.

Sorry for pushing all your insurance premiums up folks.

That's ok, next year your premium will go up as you've claimed and are therefore a higher risk customer!
