Do You Think This Can Be Repaired Safely?

Featured Replies

Hi all, i saw this when i was driving around town yesterday and took some pics today. I am wondering if it can be repaired safely. I believe it's a 2003 or 2004 Octavia Elegance 1.8 20v turbo. Before the crash it would have been worth approx $35,000 BDS which is approx GBP 9,500. What replacement parts would be needed and more importantly would it be able to be safely repaired? one pic another pic

i apologise for the quality of the pics, they were taken with a camera phone. I know it is not much to go on, but based on what you can see, what would one be looking at in terms of repairing. A possible project perhaps?

well it will be a write off thats for sure as for repair anythhing is repairable

the car would deffo need to be jigged as the boot looks like its moved

then you need rear door quater possible boot floor folded bumper etc etc and the front end has taken a knock by the look of the pic then there is the rear beam whells

all in all alot of work needed but not impossible but i would think cost wise will be lots to repair.

is it worth it prob not imho

thats a high price tag on it mate,

well it is for this country lol, I personally wouldnt touch it but as a project them could be good.

It may be cheaper to import one from over here.

It may be cheaper to import one from over here.

To import one from over there, there are high taxes, furthermore it must not be more than 4 years old, so that limits options somewhat. Also, the petrol fuel here is EU3/ EU4 compliant while diesel is EU2/3 Compliant.

Taxes.

on the cost of the car+shipping (normally around $6400) +insurance (1% of cost of cat + shipping), the first tax is the import tax of 45%

On top of the taxes listed above, there is an environmental levy of $2400

On top of what's listed above, there is an excise tax based on the engine size:

Diesel engines: up to and including 1900cc 46.95%

above 1900cc: 74%

Petrol engines: up to and including 1400cc 2?.??% (twenty something percent, cant remember right now)

1401cc up to and including 1600cc: 46.95%

1601cc up to and including 1800cc: 80%

1801cc and above : 120%

And finally, on top of all those taxes, there is VAT which is calculated at 15%

So in the final synopsis, a car valued at GBP 5500 will cost approx GBP 7500-8000 in taxes alone to bring to Barbados

At 5000GBP it is approx $17000 BBD, so it is cheaper to buy, but the @#$%$# taxes make it more expensive

the rear beam wont have bent easily like that so it will have damaged the mountings and floorpan, as said anything is fixable but there would be a lot of work involved in that one and prob not worth the repair costs even if you were able to do it all youself

Thanks to all for the replies. May possibly have to work as an engine and parts (window motors regulators ccu, throttle position sensor etc) transplant. Would fit nicely into mom's 1.6 estate, or into the fabia (when i get it)
