Who will fit cruise control to my VRS in Cardiff?

Featured Replies

I've asked this question before but didn't get anywhere with it.

Can someone offer or recommend someone to fit the cruise control kit to my 04 Fabia VRS in or around Cardiff?

Even if the cost of travel had to be included it would be ok

Thanks

Got a quote from White Dove Skoda Cardiff for £210 + VAT, bit too expensive

Still looking!

As far as dealers go, IMHO White Dove are best given a wide berth. Capital Newport would be a better bet although still not that cheap I'd imagine.

I can't speak highly enough about Capitol in Newport, they are generally first rate for service, just don't bother trying to buy a car from them ;)

NG are a longstanding specialist who should be able to help for less than the dealer. Give them a ring

Capitol Skoda Newport couldn't do it at the moment

Sinclair Skoda Swansea was £265

NG Motors Cardiff don't do it (although they are an excellent garage that do everything else for my car)

Its booked in at White Dove Cardiff for £210 total

I understand than some people do not rate them but with the cruise control fitting it either works or it doesn't so not much risk

It always surprises me that people aren't prepared to travel more. I currently drive from Cwmbran to Thetford (pretty much the full width of the UK at it's widest) and it takes me about 4 hours. At about the 2-hour point (depending on how I travel) I pass very close to something like 6 or 7 VAG specialists and a couple of well known tuners, plus probably the best low-cost wheel refurbisher in the UK).

Unit 18 is in Wellingborough (about a 200 mile round trip on good roads) and I think I'm right in saying they charge about £125 for a cruise control upgrade, and once you've seen them do it you can do it yourself next time! If they made you a cup of coffee they'd be perfect!

Best of luck, even the most menial of tasks become a major ballache when they are involved.

I know someone who can help if you like. PM for more info :D

Its a whole day away plus the fuel cost. Busy life can't afford that just for a nice to have car feature.

I would be, I've heard they just laid off their best tech.

So who knows, maybe it will be YTS working on your car.

My advice is check your body work, wheels closely after it's been in as they have a rep for mysterious marks(amongst other things) which they claim didn't happen there honest guvnor

The fuel cost will be £25 tops. Even after fuel you should be £60 up, plus don't think of it as a day lost - think of it as a day out in England. Oh... Wait....

Its a 370 mile round trip from my house, 7 hours driving

very surprised by the white dove reaction, i'll keep my eye out for marks and mileage!

I ignored the warnings!

Dropped my car (04 Fabia VRS) off at White Dove Skoda in Cardiff this morning to have the Cruise Control kit fitted for £210 inc. VAT.

Had a call from them in the afternoon stating that they thought that the kit was a "plug-and-play" type, i.e. relatively simple to fit. However, according to them they have had to fit a more compicated version where the steering wheel and the dash has had to be removed in order to fit it, so its cost them a lot more than they thought.

Is this correct as the other people on here that fit it say that it doesn't take that long? Have they done more work than they needed to or fitted the wrong kit?

To credit them one thing they have said that it is their mistake and it will not affect the agreed price, which is very reasonable of them.

It does inconvenience me getting home and getting back to work today, especially as I have a 100 mile a day commute. They didn't have any courtesy cars available.

Just hope that it works tomorrow!

and sorry to Unit 18, should not have called

Instructions on exactly how to do it...

http://www.fabia-vrs.com/technical-info/cruise-control-retrofit/

Depending on who you speak to, it's 2-3 hours work, But I know one gentleman who did it under an hour in a double-or-quits type bet.

Seems like If it were attempted by someone "able" but had never done it before I can see how it may take way longer than 2-3 hours.

When they said "we had to remove the dash" I pictured them remoing the whole lot from glove box to light switch, not just a few panels as shown in the guide.

Just hope that its all ok and screwed back together well. I'll be picking it up tomorrow afternoon.

I'm sure it will be fine. They're probably trailering the car to Wellingborough as we speak

I also think you have to expect their technicians to be more than 'able'. They are supposedly trained technicians. There are allocated times for every job and replacing the stalks on the steering wheel is only allocated an hour if I recall correctly (I had my cruise control stalk replaced under warranty) as I was gobsmacked that they did the job so fast. All kidding aside, people like Ross and Ali at U18 are proper experts (Ross is at least a double, maybe even a triple VAG Mastertech) and they can pop panels off and replace them at a speed that really does make you wonder what takes them all that time in the dealers.

I'm sure your car will be fine though.

I picked the car up yesterday afternoon and paid the agreed £210. Cruise control works fine and everything is back in place.

I asked how much time they spent on it and they said "over £500 worth of time". It was with them for two days. Fair play to them for sticking to the agreed price without any hassle

For future ref - there is a guy on the seatcupra.net who fits cruise control and has done it for quite a few of the guys. goes by the name "Techie" - lives somewhere around worcester
