18" wheels

Featured Replies

looking to get some alloys soon as im going to need new tyres soon , just afew questions

do 18s slow the acceleration down much ? is it worth going for 17s as i dont want to slow the acceleration down

how much would you be able to lower her without the wheels rubbing ? ( the boot does get loaded full when we go camping so thats an issue )

did the very early model VRS come in 16s ?

very first ones did have 16" as did pritty much all the Combi's

If you do load the car up a lot then stick with 7x17" et 38 5x100 and just put 225 45 17 tryes on.

18" rims dont slow you down you've just got to get the right wheels lol.

If you go for replicas then yes as they are heavy but then again so are most aftermarket alloys. If you want to go lightweight there is OZ and TD(my paint has cracked on these after 17 month and less than 20k) OZ are very expensive but look ace. the 18" rims are lighter than the std 17" ones and even lighter than the tyre you put on them lol.

18 look better imo but will catch if you lug a load unless you get 7.5" wide I think!

Why not just get new tyres on the std spiders? they are cheaper than 18 and the wheels are ment for the car, you can et Toyo T1r for less than £250 but for the 18" ones they are £355 both are on ebay.

Providing you don't go for heavy replica alloys they won't slow you down. You may find It a bit harsher as you will need lower profile tyres to have the same rolling radius as the standard alloys & tyres. I have some 18" Dezent motion alloys which are 18"x 7.5j with an et38. The offset Is the same as the standard alloys & sit plenty into the arches as not to catch, but plenty have got away with et35 alloys without catching. I even had et33 replica alloys before & they never rubbed.

ive got 18s on mine with 225/40/18 tyres and it catch's when loaded. wish i had kept the spiders and re furbed em with new tyres but at the time i thought it was a good offer :giggle: stick with 17s

Haven't had any issues with my 18x8s (35mm offset) with 215 tyres.

ive found so RS4 replica wheels with 235X40 for two tyres and 225X40 for the other two . would these slow the car down due to weight and size and would i also have problems with size of the tyres

Do you know how heavy they are?

I have just gone for some R32 replicas and OMG are they heavy!

You wont notice so much going from std spiders as they are fairly heavy too. I had some Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 and they are very light, the 8x18" rims are quite a lot lighter than even the 17" spiders lol.

I have found the car now to be quite a lot more weighted and not as planted, also the eco has gone down down down lol,

good job I still have the TD's lol

I would not really go for the 235 tyres tho,

have a look on www.carbibles.com and look at the tyres section and put in the measurments and it tells you how much closer the new ones will be to the arches and the struts.

i dont think ill be going for 18s . might get the std 17s spiders and get them powered coated black with a red outer line on the rim .

My 18s only weigh 8.7kg each :D

To add some context, I have 15" 6J steel wheels with winter tyres. The wheels weigh about 8.9 kg each and the tyres (195/65) weighed about 8 kg. The standard 16" 6.5J alloys wheels for my car with 205/55 tyres weigh about 19.4 kg each.

yea,

the TD's are about 8-9kg and the tyres are 9ish kg. if you get a good wheel you will notice it and the car feels better to drive.

I have just fitted RS6 replica's to mine which are 8 x 18 with 225/40 tyres. No catching and not noticed any performance drop

I have RS4 replica's They are 18x225x40 with 35 offset. I have lowered Weitec suspension and no rubbing with rear passengers.

They are heavier than the standard wheels but don't really effect anything IMO.
