What's this behind the radio?

Featured Replies

Hi.

Just got an Octavia that doesn't have a radio, just the single din fitting with a blanking plate.

Just had a look behind and as well as the usual power/speakers connector there is this contraption below.

Can anyone tell me what it is?

Thanks

Gary

That's the Evil chip.

Seriously, I have no idea why there is a connector with what lools like a PCB poking out.

it looks like the previous owner of the car has removed the stream headunit it would have come with and installed some kind of aftermarket headunit in its place. What you can see is what they forgot to remove.

It's obviously the chip that causes all the faults immediately after the warranty runs out. I should remove it immediately!

Sorry no idea what it actually is.

Yep. I've no idea either! Maybe some kind of sensor?

Think it is part of the original car though. Made by Hella. It splits off the wires that run up to the hazard warning switch. The wires are wrapped with the same tape as the other radio and hazard wires.

Maybe part of the original radio as mannyo says?

Here's a close up pic....

This is one of the temp sensors for the airflow up to the middle outlets.

Take out the upper box with the outlets and the radio. Now you can see the pipe going to the two upper outlets. There is one left and one right. In each pipe there is one of those sensors (in your case one has come out).

part number?

50 points to magic62 :)

i had the same dilemma when i found one of these on my L&K when fitting an MFD2. Youll usually find a hole where its fallen out int he air duct. They slot back in and twist to lock then it shouldn't fall out again

Yep, I had this about 3 years ago when I took out my MFD². emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

It's a gravimetric shear pin off an old Borg transwarp conduit. It attaches to the gravimetric displacement manifold but it looks like the tachyon pinion is missing. Without it the structural integrity field on the superluminal bussard collector won't initialise.

I'd get a new one - they're not dear. HTH B)

Thanks guys. It's a relief to know what it is!

I'll have a look over the weekend at getting it back in place.

Cheers

I asked the same question when i changed my stream, the answer was in how to install a mfd2, you will have to prize off the top tray on top of the dash before you can plug it back in, just get a bit of hard plastic and gently go around the edge and it will come out, you may have to disconnect the hazard switch once it pops out
